Mint roll & mint product storage dilemma solved

The other day I posted pictures of one of my giant blue drums full of unopened mint rolls in their unopened boxes. I was wondering if I should open the boxes to consolidate to save space, but was worried I’d lose any future premiums of unopened mint boxes. What I ended up doing was to save just one or two of the unopened boxes of the mint rolls for the Lincoln cents and putting them unopened in an unused 50 caliber ammo box with desiccant cartridges and the rest of them I opened the boxes and put the rolls into glass jars with a desiccant cartridge in each one.

I also emptied out another large blue drum full of mint products in their clamshell cases and boxes and put just the coins in their plastic mint capsules into one glass jar with a desiccant cartridge. I also got to use my new hygrometer jar lids that I bought a while back but never used yet. They sell them on Amazon for people to use to make humidors for their weed, they are called Hylids. I prefer the analog, but those are usually sold out so I have some that are digital that use watch batteries. I prefer the analog so that years from now they will still work because they don’t use batteries, but so be it. It will be fun to see how low the humidity goes inside the jars. The mint products in their clastic capsules went down to 35%RH right away but the rolls are taking longer. I was able to consolidate the contents of the 2 large blue drums to one ammo box and 6 small jars.

I have one of the blue drums full of the empty mint clamshells and boxes which I plan on taking over to my small storage facility where I store our Christmas decorations. We live in a little 900 square foot beach cottage with no garage so this consolidation is a big deal to me. Here’s some pictures of my new organized consolidated mint roll/mint product collection 🌞

I actually some proof sets in their hard plastic holders inside of those bags that I vacuumed and sealed with one of those. I must have sealed them about 10 years ago and had them in Tupperware. When I checked on them recently the vacuum had failed and the proof sets were loose in the bags with air around them. Nothing bad happened to the coins, but either they leaked or air slowly penetrated through the plastic because when I first vacuum sealed them the bag was completely air free and the plastic had been all sucked inward around the plastic holders. So, it works, but doesn’t last indefinitely.

We moved to the beach cottage in California in 2007 when my company back near Charlotte North Carolina closed down and my company offered me a transfer to their main headquarters in California. Back in Charlotte we had a huge 2500 square foot house with a 2 car garage. I was an accumulator collector then and had unlimited space and got in the habit of ordering whatever mint products looked cool to me. I finally realized that out here I couldn’t keep doing that because I didn’t have the room. I stopped for the most part just a few years ago, but I still ended up ordering the new Peace and Morgan’s, and the Coast Guard medal, etc. but at least I stopped ordering mint rolls. I also have been slowly selling off my silver hordes to fund my Everyman Type Sets. I got rid of all the kilo bars and 10 ounce bars first and am going through the junk silver and the Silver Eagles now.
