OUTSTANDING!! Love mint errors in sealed proof and mint sets!! 👍🏻

P.S. Unless that proof set was cracked open and resealed with a tampered coin!

I'm pretty certain that is just schmutz from degradation of the plastic in the holder. I used to find these from time-to-time in the 1968-1971 proof sets from the US Mint. They looked exactly like that and the haze would sometimes etch the coin surface underneath.

    Not a struck thru error.

    Bad haze or stain.

I think it looks like haze also. Hope I'm wrong

So would haze have horizontal striation lines all going in the same direction and end suddenly along the right vertical line?

Absolutely for the haze I have seen on this era proof sets. This coin looks exactly like what I have seen before.

Could it be a lamination? Can we get an angle pic close up of that area?

It will be delivered late tomorrow afternoon. Pics probably on Tuesday. Unless it's a stain then it's going back as seller said it's not and was a strike through of sorts..... stay tuned we'll see. Was listed as an error.

Interesting, hard to say as I'm not a big proof guy, but I think something etched the surface as it does not look like an error to me. Looking forward to your photos and assessment once received.

Looks like haze.... When checking proof sets at gun shows here, I have seen that a couple of times... Cheers, RickO
