I think it's prudent to be using whatever your buyer will be referencing. At most shows, especially smaller shows, that's what they use so it makes sense to know what they know. If I went to a show and dealers were pulling out a Playboy magazine to quote me a price, guess what?? I'd be carrying a Playboy to the show.
OK but would you charge me if I just wanted to read the articles?

We used to be regularly hit up by some of the local vest pocket guys who were too cheap to buy a subscription, wanting us to either give or sell them a copy...usually right before a show. They'd get mad when I said no. @JohnF can speak to whether this is still available but as I recall, they used to offer a one-shot package of one copy of each of their publications for XX dollars for people who just wanted single copies. And as an aside... @JohnF , I'd like to congratulate you on the significant upgrades and improvements you and your team have made to CDN/Greensheet, fixing many flaws found in the previous incarnations.

To make up for @Jzyskowski1's blunder on behalf of the forum , I went on and purchased the most recent issue of the hardcopy publication. I rarely have the opportunity to purchase the coins I collect at CDN prices, but I have wanted to have a copy as a reference and I didn't realize that I could buy one without being a member (dealer). Thank you for your contributions the the hobby, though I rarely use CDN, I do often refer to CPG or CAC price guides when attempting to determine value for a potential purchase.
Dog gone it, Dan. That was really decent of you and your support during my continued battle with shame, it’s folks like you and John who I hope to be a little more responsible to. Thanks, now back to my “corner of shame “😁

We offer single purchases online, and bundles of each publication (in a single offering). We also sell single copies at some of the shows we attend. We do whatever we can. Thank you very much for your kind words. I will share all of this with the team!

I subscribe to Greysheet and CAC Review. I would say that for me (as a new collector) it has been very helpful in setting a baseline. This has been especially true in my type collection where I am bobbing and weaving between several series at once. Personally, I think they are worth the price of admission.
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
I inherited a rather sizable collection several years back which was the catalyst in rekindling my dormant interest in collecting .
Eventually, I began to sell off some segments of this collection to raise money and to shift into other coins which interested me more.
Dealers always referenced their CDN behind the counter and never shared what they were doing.
It wasn’t long before I began my own subscription in an effort to level the playing field.
Especially helpful in my case was their listing for BU rolls, of which I had many of.
I also found the articles to be very educational.

I should have been clearer in my example. If a dealer is willing to sell to another dealer at $X, lets say that is CDN ask price because it is not a rarity, i.e. a MS63/64 common Morgan, should the dealer be willing to sell to me at the same $X if I ask? Maybe that is what you meant by the price is the price.
It's probably not as big a problem as you imagine. If there is a coin that, say, three dealers pass on at, say, $100, I'd assume you'd have a decent chance of getting it for $100.
Don't underestimate the value of relationships, though. There is great value in knowing you have a place where you can offload coins where the retail market isn't as robust as you'd thought or find things you can sell at retail more easily. At the very least, it makes sense to offer first refusal to someone like that. So if I were still wanting to get $110 for the above coin but someone I have a relationship with offered $100, I might sell to him rather than you to grease the skids for the next deal. Or I might hold out for an hour or a week trying to get the $110. Point is, though, that you're not going to get the same price I'd agree on with a "regular" which includes most dealers.

They have to get prices somewhere, nobody knows current values for everything.
