I had an NGC MS60 1901 S $20 Lib. Traded it 6 weeks ago. Yours is a nice looking coin; stars are full and nice detail on feathers. I'm going 63 due to the scratch on the cheek, assuming that's not the holder, couple hits at the neckline, some chatter on the obverse and the gouge on the reverse bottom. Not sure how forgiving they are on gold pieces.

thanks for the guesses so far, but....(what about part 2)? There is something else the discerning eye might detect. You need to be a little familiar with the series!
What is it? Here is a Trueview of the Obverse:

Can you input your cert number in the end of this link, download the high res obverse and post that photo for us?

The doubled Y? It is an 01/00 S. Forgive me for stating the obvious—student parsing.
I will dare a 65. Thanks for the view, I ought not look at gold, though.

Yes, good eye..the overdate. more obvious in the last pic. I'll post the grade/slab in a few hours.

@Fraz got it, it's the 1901/0. I had to look it up in Coinfacts because I don't know the series well enough to know that off hand.

Nice overdate. This coin and the 1909/8 Saint are the only twentieth century US gold coins with overdates that I can think of.

For the record, I may have also gone 65 if I saw the High res TV first. I was on the border between 64+/65, but we tend to be more conservative if the pictures aren’t great

yup, the early players were at a disadvantage. Thanks for showing me how to get those high resolution Trueview close-ups.

Late to the GTG, but I would say it is a solid 65.... Great pictures. Cheers, RickO

Question for my education. On PCGS Price Guide and Coinfacts the 1901/0 S is listed 2 ways, the second listing almost like a separate variety"
    1) 1901 0 S
    2) 1901/0-S Overdate FS-301
Are these1 in the same or is there a subtle difference between the two? Thanks in advance for clarifying this for me!

@JW77 used an exclamation point instead of a question mark—he’s pleased.

As far as I know there's only one 1901/0-S half eagle. Perhaps one shows 1901/0 on the label and the other shows the actual FS variety number.
