Why is this card listed as being PSA 10 in the PSA Cert database? It also shows as 10 in the registry sets it is in….

A single, top pop card gets a two point bonus for registry purposes.

8 + 2 = 10

When two are tied for Top Pop, a 1 bonus point is awarded to each. After three or more are tied, no bonus is awarded.

If you go to the cert verification page it now says the grade is Gem Mt 10, which cannot be explained by top pop bonuses as far as I know. Unless there is a glitch looks like that’s what the grade is now.

It would still say the actual grade of 8 in the registry set though.

If a card of this stature had been bumped from 8 to 10 we would surely have heard about it, no? 🤔 Also seems kind of unlikely given the card’s unique…history.

Also, this picture is odd. It’s too blurry to make out clearly, but it doesn’t appear to be the Gretzky/McNall card. The grade looks like Mint 9 to me and the cert does not look like 00000001. The line of text below Honus’ name does not look like a Gretzky/McNall reference. Some kind of reprint that he doesn’t have to worry about carrying around? 🤔

Maybe it’s in a new “Kendrick” pedigree flip? I’m honestly not even sure who owns it.

Credibility of people who admit to being unscrupulous should not be automatically given.
I am sure there are MANY trimmed/sheet cut cards in PSA slabs. This certainly could be one of them. There's no proof that PSA holdered the card knowing it was trimmed.
Personally, I couldn't care less about multi million dollar cards and how they came to be in holders.
I am curious about the grade appearing to change though.

It was removed from the pop report in 2019.. now back as a 10, interesting.

Shown in the pop report now:

Set it is registered to still shows a 8 in the card scan, but grade of 10 in the text.

True, PSA might not have know but nonetheless he admitted to trimming it! And yes, I am sure there are others in holders.

It would be nice if someone in the know would confirm or deny that this card has been bumped to a PSA 10. Hard to believe something that significant wouldn’t be big news. It seems kinda crazy, as the card certainly seems to have at least one corner with noticeable wear.

Wow - PSA must be on the hook for significant dollars via their guarantee lowering it from a 10 to an 8. What is that price difference like $1 Billion Dollars? Obviously I am joking but the cert lookup on that card has a strange history. Wonder how it changed to a 10 and if this thread was the precipice for changing it back to the corrected 8.

This card is in the Ken Kendrick Collection, he being the owner of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

What am I missing? I feel like there’s a joke I’m not in on…

It is kind of funny to have a picture of the back with a caption that says unknown back. I understand it means it was graded before back designations were on the card. But still looks ridiculous.
