My box of 20…not great, but not bad either

VetterVetter Posts: 881 ✭✭✭✭✭

Going through my collection and I thought it would be fun to make a box of 20. All are certified and grades run from AG3 to MS63. It was fun and a little hard choosing. Anyway, here they are.

Lincoln Cents-1909 S vdb, 1914 D, 1922 no D, 1955 ddo, 1972 ddo
Shield Nickel-1879
Buffalo Nickels-1916 ddo, 1918/7 D, 1935 ddr, 1936 D 3 1/2 leg, 1937 D 3 leg, dateless double struck in collar
Mercury Dime-1916 D
Barber Quarter-1913 S
Standing Lib Quarter-1921
Walking Lib Half-1921 D, 1938 D
Morgan Dollar-1893 S
Peace Dollar-1928
$10 Gold-1891 CC

Members I have done business with:

Nice box of key dates! This is always a great idea. Keys rarely lose value over time and are great investments, both monetarily and to use as a learning tool.

Vetter, I think your box of 20 is awesome! I am enthusiastic by your focus on the key dates. I don't care so much about the grades. We buy the grade that we can for whatever reason.

    Really great box!
    I’ll take your castoffs
I’ve had in my mind to find my already owned box of 20 some rainy weekend. I’d have to include some raw coins, though (1914D Lincoln, etc.).

Anything by the late Ron Pope, including Treasure Hunting Buffalo Nickels, and Buffalo Nickels, The Abraded Die Varieties. Ron was a great resource and friend to many here. Think you can still find the books on Ebay.

That's too bad, a real loss for anyone who wants to hunt for Buffalo varieties in the future. Treasure Hunting is also unavailable on Amazon, which does have copies of the Authorative Reference on Buffalo Nickels that Ron co-wrote with Kevin Flynn and John Wexler. It incorporates a lot of the Treasure Hunting book.

Thanks for mentioning these books. How does David W. Lange's "The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, 2nd Edition" compare to the Authorative Reference on Buffalo Nickels?

The Complete Guide is more of an overview of the series and only mentions the major varieties, 3L, 16/16, 18/7 and a few others with small pictures. The Authorative Reference includes pretty much all of varieties, each with several photos and also many repunched mintmarks not included in the Guide.
