I've asked about this before. What do you think about Original Government Packaging? Too much? The box inside a box with a sleeve, inconsistent colors and shapes and sizes...are they really worth keeping??? Is there value to them or just space wasters? Some come with fancy wooden boxes inside a cardboard box with a protective sleeve...all bulky. If you enjoy your coins, isn't it more difficult to view them all bundled up like this? Storage nightmare? Is there an alternative ?? The coins are already protected in a capsule and if you keep your coins raw & ungraded, how should you keep them? Slabbed and graded fit nicely in a slabbed box. If you have raw coins, would they be better kept in a single coin box?

Too much?

And if you really like boxes from the mint, you can purchase them to hold your coins!!! Here's an awkward 5 roll holder!

I generally like them for more consistent and easy storage of the coins from the mint. However, it is the problem because it's so bulky and it takes up so much space. It's a real nice way to also present AUS mint product is a gift, As it makes it a little bit more luxurious looking than just a raw coin. Personally I can go either way without the government packaging. But like you said you can buy this OGP on the Internet And I imagine some people use this method to confuse the buyer as whether the coin is really A quality mint product or just a Business strike.

    Nowadays? Too cheap, too crappy.

The mints packaging game was on point in the 1990's and early 2000's, peaked with the UHR's, and never recovered thereafter.

I keep the box on new issue coins from the mint. Years ago, I purchased some of the Morgans in the large plastic containers... and I have kept them. Extraneous packaging I throw away. Cheers, RickO

I got it off ebay, just search coin storage box. There are many different types, styles, sizes. Check the size of the holders, there are some that only hold a coin the size of a quarter. Then there are the larger ones.

I wound up with a small holder one first because i didnt fully read description. But i still used it for nickels, ihc, etc.

I keep mine in the Gov't Mint box. I don't display any of my coins out in the open. Most are in "the vault", and I only have a few to play with at any time.

I agree, the packaging doesn't lend to viewing your coins very well. But, if you ever plan to sell the coin(s), I would think buyers would like to see that it's in the original Gov't issue box with COA. Unfortunately, that can be easily faked. So, does it really matter?

I'm keeping mine as I received them. I don't have that many, so it doesn't really bother me.

    I collect coins, not packaging.

I keep them in OGP. 50 years from now most will have been tossed away and trashed. Worth keeping in my opinion.

I buy nothing from the mint and have not for many years. The stuff I did buy in the past is still in all the mint packaging, it was not that much for the most part so I really don't care about the small amount of extra space.

Keeping the original boxes is a good idea. Thats what i do. Then i put coins in that box above for quick viewing.

When selling mint proof products over the years I found that local coin shops were willing to pay a little more when all the original packaging came with the coin. I would display or store your coins to your liking, but buy a plastic bin and keep all the packaging for a rainy day. I recently just gifted my daughter a proof buffalo; she seemed to appreciate it more with the mint case and materials. Maybe another reason to save.

Go on eBay and check out the OGP for the V75 Gold Eagle. Three for sale with the CHEAPEST being $888.88 (or best offer).....! Sometimes the packaging makes the coin. ;-)

Some like the original packaging. It's a good selling point and I think adds to the value.
