Our story begins this January at the F.U.N. show in Orlando. I made a coin friend and he is obsessed with US Philippines coinage.
He spent some time at our table and the rest of the time scoured the bourse for Philippines coins and currency. He related stories about being still being able to find really nice coins at fair prices. Needless to say i now have the bug! I buy/sell predominantly US type and Victorian Canada and randomly i’ll have a handful of world coins. In the past i have paid little attention to Philippine coinage…
A couple weeks after the show i was visiting an obscure nearby shop that sells mostly antiques and vintage collectibles, he also has some US inventory and World coins as well. Bought a few US coins and he handed me 4 or 5 boxes of world in 2X2 ‘s to peruse, the kicker is i have looked through this inventory several times in the past 6 or 7 years and seen these 2 coins and paid zero attention to them….
Needless to say with a bit of newfound knowledge and passion i didn’t hesitate to make the purchase…the prices were extremely reasonable, i may or may not have had a touch of guilt! The next day they were on their way to PCGS for Express grading.
Here is the result, feel free to guess the grades, i will say the Truviews are fairly accurate, however the Peso in hand has a bit more subdued luster than the pic…
I will post the grades tomorrow evening..

I see now the pics are out of order, the top and bottom photos are the 20 cent
The middle 2 the Peso

Very nice coins! I've always loved Proof US Philippine coinage.

I'll wager a guess at both of these:
    20 Centavo: PR66
    Peso: PR62

Those are gorgeous, I also thought they were proofs from the images, I'll guess 65 for the 20 Centavo and 63 for the Peso. Hard to believe a little dealer had coins that nice sitting in 2x2s in a box somewhere.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

Nice quality coins.... I have never collected these, but often overhear people asking for them at coin shows... Attractive art. Cheers, RickO
