Bought a little “collection” today.

Accumulations/collections are always fun to look at for me. This one is from an estate. Family kept a 2 cent piece which I appreciated that they wanted to keep something.
Interesting pieces included a holed 1849 half dime, Hawaii and confederate notes, some coal scrip and some common dollars.
Nothing rare but fun.
I put the notes into holders when I first evaluated the contents. They were folded up pretty good originally.

Nice! I bet there are millions of those old little boxes hiding in dresser drawers throughout the world. Probably some hidden gems in some.

@DNADave What is that silver colored item shaped like a tapered cone?

I thinks it’s a limestone fossil of coral.
I thought maybe a tooth at first but pretty sure it’s a fossil

I see the reverse of a Carbon Fuel Company cent.
Yes. R2. Carbon, WVa.
Also an Amigo Coal Company cent. R6
I had both of those so just duplicates.
I hope for bigger and better finds this year. But it’s a start.
looks like a crinoid, maybe
@DNADave... I was curious about the 'fossil' as well... looks like silver... Let us know what you find out.... Things like that make me curious... Cheers, RickO
Whats the weight of the "fossil" thing? Does it seem heavy. Looks like a lead civil war bullet that was worked over with a knife.

It is a horn coral, very common. Not sure about weight. Maybe an ounce from what it felt like when I chucked out in the driveway. Lol.
Essentially just a rock.
Dang, was hoping it was old lead bullet. I woulda bought it off you.
Well, its a lawn ornament now.

The 1849 half dime must have had quite a history.

Thank you. Right now it’s at about 520 different pieces. Just scratching the surface of what’s out there.
Agree. I left it on the string. The other day there was thread about do you collect half dimes. This may be just a $3 coin, but it’s in the album now.
