United States Commemorative Gallery, www.uscommgallery.com has their own version of Vaults. Price range $29-$149. No box. Comes in bags. Seems like there is a new sheriff in town. Or they may have been around awhile.

It's not special or new. There are plenty of flavors of this type of thing available on eBay, and many of them actually represent decent value.

What VB is trying to do is take it to another level by teaming up with the new grading service, and then adding the lottery element to it. What you have linked, and what I am describing, is really not a version of what VB is doing.

The grab bags are mysteries insofar as you don't know exactly what you are going to get, but you generally get around what you are paying in terms of value. VB, OTOH, is a lottery where everyone gets something, but most people get a lot less than what they pay, while a few get what they pay, and very, very few get more. Just like a lottery, as opposed to a grab bag.

At the end of the day, the grab bags generally sell at, or a little below, retail, while, in the aggregate, VB sells for a lot more than retail, on the apparent theory that the VB slab itself adds a lot of value. That remains to be seen.

Plus, VB is ascribing a lot of value to the possibility of hitting a jackpot, and is making people pay in excess of the economic value of the jackpot for that. There is no possibility of a jackpot with the grab bags.

Never cared for 'pig in a poke' type programs. I want to see what is offered, evaluate the product, offer what I believe it is worth (if not satisfied with marked price), and buy or walk. True, in some cases there may be a winner. In some cases, people win the lottery. ;) Cheers, RickO
