My Women's quarters Mint Rolls from the Mint... I am NOT happy.

KurisuKurisu Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭✭✭

Seriously?! I don't rant much...!
But I actually want a refund now.

I'm all about not wasting plastic but...

This is how they arrived, seemingly packed well. Which is irrelevant considering they were loose in the box to move around as well as completely loose rolls in their individual boxes to move and bang against each other.

One of the smashed boxes is also torn...so I opened that one.
The rolls have been bashing against each other in there. I didn't touch them this is how the rolls were sitting when I opened it.

My first ever subscription order and I genuinely feel ripped off by the U.S. Mint.
What's the point of buying mint rolls when they arrive smashed up like this?!

I'm fully expecting at least one torn roll somewhere...but my intent was to sell two of these sets.
2 out of 3 of the set's boxes were smashed inside the shipping box and no longer look new.
I can feel and hear that the rolls are totally loose in the other boxes as well. Ugh.

Coins are Neato!

    Oh, wow!
Unfortunately, when something like this occurs, it happened to me once, from Amazon. The damage would be the driver or whomever loads the truck. But in your case, it does seem like prior to the delivery?
Yes, I would send back. If you're willing to wait longer and put up with the mint's red tape? So sorry, If it was me, I'd chalk it up for what it is, ( if the coins aren't ruined)
    Then, never buy again.
    Good Luck, my friend.

In this case, it's the Mint being lazy...no protection or anything to hold them in place.
Just simple cardboard boxes with a bend on the inside and only bubble wrap on one side inside the shipping box.
Look what just happened to @Jsmiith and his sets... https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/comment/13443677#Comment_13443677

I'm guessing if they are mantained in the roll then there should be no problem: if not then here ya go...........

I got mine yesterday. Called Mint to request return label then cancelled all of my subscriptions for quarters, Silver Eagles, Morgans and Peace Dollars, Price increases and shotty quality equal bye-bye.

That is surprising.... I think these are packaged by a contracted service the Mint uses. So a lot of complaints should spur some action. I hope the coins were not damaged. Cheers, RickO

No damage to my 3 boxes/3 roll sets

    Wow
Looks like the USM went cheap on the packaging and not the former format with plastic roll holder in the box.
This is gonna happen a lot
    Let the returns begin!

First thing that popped into my head.

I am not a mint direct collector...but can you send them back?

Always. But, with coins that are "currently unavailable" there is no guarantee that you will receive a replacement, so it's often better to live with the imperfection than to just get a refund.

People sending them back due to damaged boxes risk throwing away money and being super pissed if they don't receive replacements, no matter what they are being told on the phone now. It's always a possibility, because the mint cannot ship what it does not have.

Maybe they will replace the boxes and return the rolls to the dissatisfied customers, or maybe they will issue refunds and place the returns back on sale at 7:30 some morning. No real way to know.

Yes. Actually customer service was wonderful. I spoke to a manager as well, and she was wonderful too.
She was super honest about the fact that it would be a big maybe on whether or not they can actually replace the order.
She told me that production does keep some extras for just in case, but that she has no way to guarantee replacements.
They quickly offered to refund and a immediately sent out a return package for me before I even spoke to a manager.
    ...But I'm debating it.
I love Mint rolls lol. What can I say :p

Buying from the mint is a gamble. And as some here will tell you, gambling is bad. :)

I never check. I just took the small mint box out of the mail box and put it away and forget it.

I am wondering should I also buy the proof silver set. I put them on the cart but haven't make up my mind yet.

Mine arrived in good order, but based on the response it seems like the ship might have sailed on this series when the mint increased the output of three roll sets.

I’m still collecting for now and I would definitely recommend the silver proof set - designs really pop in that finish

I keep all my Mint gambles in a vault box.
