45 Nickel with green stuff on the edge.

I have this decent 45 P nickel with some green gunk on the edge, acetone didn’t work. Is there any way to get rid of it?

Probably corrosion but if it's slimy it'd be PVC.

acetone will probably work if you are not in a hurry - soak a day and then roll cotton swab over it applying pressure, you will get a little each day... repeat daily until happy

there also is some reverse by PL and on obverse edge by IN

@Ownerofawheatiehorde... If a long soak in 100% acetone did not work, then try Ezest or MS70, but they would require care... start with a Qtip on the edge if you try one of those... Might even dilute it to begin with. Let us know how it goes. Cheers, RickO

And from the way you are holding it, it probably has your fingerprints on the front and back.

The photos look deceiving, but I promise you I was holding it by it’s edge. :D

How can you be holding it by the edge when we can see the edge between your fingers?

The only part my fingers were touching was the corner of the edge, it was just taken from a odd angle and zoomed in.

For this coin I don't think it really matters how you hold it, I think it might be too far gone. Since the grime is on the edge you can probably safely be aggressive with it, have you tried scratching it off with your fingernail?

No, but I will after a longer soak in acetone.

Verdicare or a similar product may work.

Nice Jefferson - is that a die crack on the reverse?

Not sure, but I see what you are talking about. Right now it's in a acetone bath but it's a good coin for 50 cents.
