What makes the 1946 WLH a DD

I'm just curious because I bought one and wonder if the tpg missed it.
I'm probably wrong but still would like to learn.

The 1946 Doubled Die is very dramatic, all the feathers and motto are strongly doubled. The chances of a TPG missing that one are very low.

It's on the reverse and easily seeable on "E Pluribus Unum".
Here's mine:

Unless you ask PCGS to do variety attribution, they won't do it because that's an added service (which costs more money).

That is rather dramatic.
I am seeing what looks like doubling in UNITED STATES
I'll post the coin when I get it and we can sort it out.
I think sometimes I try to hard to find stuff and I convince myself it there.
In this case I am seeing something.
It could be machine doubling though.
This is not true in this instance. The 1946 DDR is a major variety and is attributed for free, much like the 1937-D 3 leg buff, 1955 & 72 DDO Lincoln, etc.

My understanding is that if a variety has its own line in the price guide they attribute it at no cost.

@ChrisH821 I stand corrected. I had no idea that they attributed specific varieties for free.

Yes, it's a Major Variety which can be attributed, BUT, you have to request it.

Well then this could be a good thing. We will see when it's in my hand.
@Watchtower ... We look forward to the pictures.... Check the CPG... Good luck, Cheers, RickO
I have never done it, but I know others here have cherrypicked this variety in an unattributed PCGS slab. If you do not know it's the DDR when you submit it and mark it as such on the forms, PCGS will not attribute it for you.
Here is an image I made showing the pick-up points for this variety on a worn specimen. You can see the doubling on the feathers even on a very low grade example.
