Im interested in learning more about this coins history. I found a link or 2 on google, but nothing in-depth. Does anyone have a link with more info?

Thanks.

I can tell you that some of them were well used :)

There used to be a specialist on the forum who once helped me verify my one cent variety - then later purchased it.
Not sure if he is still active or not, but I'm sure he can help. Maybe he will see this thread, as the name eludes me.

I also know that the 1837 3 cent coins must be rare.
Years ago at a FUN show I had just wrapped up a relatively large purchase of better date mid grade Barber halves and quarters from a West coast dealer, and spotted one of those with a hole in it in his case.
Thinking it would be an interesting study piece, and knowing I'd just spent a bunch with him figured I'd get it cheap, I asked to see it. He asked if I knew anything about them, no, not really....neither did he, but if wanted it, $500.....(and he was selling coins at Bid, so he wasn't a gouger). Ahhh no thanks!

    Are you thinking of Ambro51?

Here is an old thread that might be a good starting point. It has links to other threads.

I think that past the Fuechtwanger's themselves the best thing Ambro brought to the forum was the interesting discussion of die fatigue that he mistook as "Ornamental" lettering. At least that's the way I remember it. There was a lot of explaining and he didn't agree easily.

    We miss @ambro51 !

I know he got burned in a Heritage auction years back and never really got over the sting. He was a prolific poster, and he always had interesting ideas and adventures to share.
