@Shane6596 before you jump in buy a book on the series. Also decide on what grade you want your set to be. Matched sets look great and you won't have to upgrade in the future. I have a few dates in my Late Date set that need upgrades...luckily the space holders were only a couple hundred bucks total.
and one that needs an upgrade 1842 PCGS VG8.
Do you want a raw set or a TPG set? Many EAC collectors prefer raw coins. If it was me I would start a set that was a date set...raw...all the coins VF. Get a nice Dansco album. 1823 would be the only real stopper. Now for a little eye candy..1855 Nob Ear EDS PCGS MS65.

This is one of a number of draped bust cents I have at PCGS right now:
Just a little type set I’ve been working on. Ultimately this set will also contain an AMERI, a Periods Chain Cent, a lettered edge Wreath, a ‘93 Lib Cap, a plain edge Lib Cap, a 2nd Hairstyle Draped Bust, a Matron Head, a Modified Matron Head, and a Petite Head. So yeah, a ways to go.

And a duplicate:

I only have one large cent. Kind of worn. Lol

I thinking of just a date set, raw to get started. Get some coins in hand and figure it out from there how far i want to go.

F to VF seems to be what i prefer after looking them over for the last week. I like more worn looking coins. Its not a price thing, it just seems to be what i like "looks wise to my eye".
I've been collecting old dietz lanterns for years and they are rusty and banged up and i love em. Got old hand tools, saws, etc.
I live in a log house, most stuff i have is antique looking in the house, maybe thats why i like the worn coins.
I still like some details on a coin, but it needs to be smoothed down and worn a bit for my liking.

Leftovers from my early copper collecting days. I always liked these so I kept them.

Here’s one right next to me, I love the nice brown on it.
Type collector, mainly into Seated. -formerly Ownerofawheatiehorde. Good BST transactions with: mirabela, OKCC, MICHAELDIXON, Gerard
1818 cents with that die break through all the stars are usually Randall Hoard coins when found in uncirculated condition.
Great coins so far, keep em coming. Thanks

I sold this one to a forum member a few weeks ago, curious why not an Unc.?

How much of a bright line is there between AUs and Unc on large cents, and why are raw ones so hard to sell?
Love the color on the above coin. Reminds me of the look of my lanterns.
That "rusty" look is awesome to me

I started a large cent Littleton album some years ago, I am down to needing only 8 to complete it. Trouble is, when you get down to 8, some of them are darn tough! I can definitely get 5 of the 8, maybe 6.
@logger7 I always look for a rub on the hair over the ear. NGC MS61 usually wind up PCGS AU58 because PCGS is much tighter about this "cabinet friction." Your 1818 is beautiful but lacks enough luster for MS62..hence your AU58. Raw AU or Unc. I stay away from on the theory that there must be something wrong with the coin I am missing or else it would be slabbed.
I don’t have many coppers but I do really like them!

I knew it would happen.
Jmski52 that is a nicely matched group you have there.

Shane half cents are always a good option as well.
I have a 1798 S-161, VG-7, raw. I bought this coin many years ago. It was nice when I bought it. Over the years it has darkened to the point you can’t really see anything. Bummer.
Lowest POP for the variety at PCGS...

Here are a few of my favorites.

I bought this one recently off a member here. It was one of the coins i saw years ago from a friends collection, and i said if i ever start a coin collection, it would be one of the first ones. It will sit solo for awhile, ill add to her later. R2 S-70

They can be addicting. I have a few and am always looking for a nice one to add to my collection.
Forget everything else, this is the coin I covet the most in this thread of impressive copper….
I've got no large cents to share but I can recommend an album since you've expressed an interest in raw. I find the old Library of Coins albums to be fantastic and have several of them filled. They date from the '60's and earlier. Despite their age they are readily available in nice condition on eBay.
To my knowledge they didn't make an album specifically for Matron Head Cents. Their main large cent album is in two parts and encompasses all types. They did however make a general large cent album. Holes to fit large cents and no labeling of the dates, types or varieties. It gives you the freedom to insert coins and leave the pages blank or fill in the exact information you want for each coin. I did this for my raw Eisenhower Dollar collection with one of their general dollar sized coin albums and it looks really nice.
Wow. Some sweet coins here.

Here’s my earlier die state example:
@Walkerguy21D, yours and mine are pretty close in time as the die broke apart. Reverse pics?
I showed this Large cent to our local Danbury club. They thought it was a good, but no better than AG iimo.
