I stopped my order and they still say its not the Variety. Here we go again.

10/27/2022 My 4 coins went into regrade with all 4 coins being varieties. I used my voucher and have waited patiently for the results. Finally on Thursday my coins went to final review and I was excited. Monday Morning the email came saying grades have posted.

I went and looked and the first three coins all had the variety right but the 1952 d in MS 64 did not get the DDO 101. I called them to stop the order from shipping and asked for a review on the coin since I am 100 percent sure it is the right DDO as it was the coin that was cherry picked from J T Stanton and I bought the coin after sending it in for another member and it got graded as such.

This is the original Thread. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1004540/sometimes-even-the-guy-who-writes-the-book-can-get-cherry-picked#latest

Now I cracked the coin out this past year because i wanted to try for a upgrade without variety. I did not get it and the coin came back again as MS 64 so decided to just get the coin back in the holder for my set. I just received an email from them stating they looked at the coin again and said there is no Variety to this coin.

So here is the picture of when the coin was in the last holder MS 64. How can the Variety guy not get this one right? I really hate there gonna send this coin back and I guess I will have to send it to Wiles or someone else just to get our host to open there eyes? The 2 and the R in Liberty are a dead giveaway for the DDO.

I guess I should give them credit for getting 3 out of 4 right. The 1946 S/S in MS 67 and another 1951 D DDO 101 in MS 66 and finally a 1940 D DDO 101 in MS 63. Thanks for looking.....

Welcome to the club. Feel free to review this thread of mine. After I got my most recent issue resolved, I ended up with close to an $80 charge on my credit card. They had to handle the coin 3 times and I had to educate the "professionals" again....and I get charged a second time. We know what we are doing and we have to educate them. It's rough.

I know a top pop variety mistake was made at Winter FUN as well...one not getting attribution. It seems to happen over and over and over again. I feel for you and wish you the best of luck.

Brian Raines has the most stories though. Ouch.

Technically that is a sneaky way to try for an upgrade to a variety (crack out & sub raw), and PCGS is holding your feet to the fire for that move. Probably gonna cost you several hundred dollars (minimum) in time & expenses getting that label corrected, just to get the same grade as before.

    Regrade next time

That is a real shame - the variety is clear as day. :/

This is funny so when you just crack out a regular coin and send it back in for grading is that sneaky too? It will not cost me anything except time as pcgs will put the coin in the right holder and they will pay for my variety fee and reshipping the coin back to them. This is not the first time this has happened.

Now this morning when I checked for true views which we ALL know comes out a week or two after your grades show up. Well the 1946 s true view is up and that is because I was told by Phil years ago that when the picture is taken it will know if the coin has been true viewed before and that is why the 46 s and the 1952 d now have true views showing while the other two coins never had a picture before and those are not up yet.

The only true view of the 1952 D coin was taken when it was in the DDO Holder. Both of these pictures clearly are the same as when they went thru the first time so they used the old pictures.

This thread was created to show that the coin is the DDO and I was looking for folks to agree not bash our host. They will get this right and it may take me some time, but trust me it will get back in the ddo holder. I will be sending the links to the first thread started that show GREAT pictures from the original owner in which there is no doubt it is the DDO.

Why the variety guy cannot get this right is beyond me. If you are not adding anything to this thread than why even bother to post. I am awaiting one more call back to plead my case hopefully BEFORE they ship them out.

    Thanks Tom

OK final update. I just got off the phone and I will say that I am totally disappointed in PCGS. The supervisor tells me that if I am not happy with the grade I can resubmit? I tell her that I am happy with the grade but the coin is the FS DDO 101. I think they were confused?

She says that pcgs does not recognize that DDO. I tell her that it is required in 3 or more sets and That I did not want the grader to look at the coin again I wanted there variety Expert to look again. I shared with her all the info above and gave her the old certificate number to show her that pcgs does recognize this variety and the picture shows it is the same exact coin they have in hand.

40 minutes on the phone. She finally comes back and tells me that if I want to resubmit for variety I will have to do that AFTER they send the coins BACK? I cannot understand why they can not just take the coin back to this so called Variety Expert without sending the coins back to Me WRONG.

I paid the 18 dollars and told them what variety and these guys still can not get it right. So there so Called Expert Learns Nothing and the next guy will be screwed too. So I will go to James Wiles and anyone else and see about getting a letter stating the coin is the FS 101 and will send it back.I also suggested to her that there so called Variety Expert needs to go back to school. The way they handle a Review is just nuts. JMO
