I know people don't tend to like damaged coins like this but when its evenly distributed and worn/toned over I think it adds to the history. Plus I got it for a discount lol

Congrats on your first fish scale coin! Just to be clear, these have been called fish scales because if you place several on a table overlapping each other their small size makes them look like fish scales.

Congrats on your first trime, she looks like she was well loved.
Edited to add: It's not important what other people like, as long as your piece makes you happy, that's what counts.
Happy collecting. Donato

Nice coin and please keep in mind that most of us do not view this board as a "coin contest", but instead as a place to talk, learn and share about coins. Your coin is fine by me!

Sorry about that, still trying to learn how you guys do things around here. I don't mean to flood the forum with pointless posts
Nice one.
P.S. I have always seen it spelled "trime".
If you are happy with something or have a question, feel free to post. If you are happy with what you got, by all means share! It may not be to any particular persons liking, but if you are happy with it, most here will be happy with you

You're on the right track, Dan.
Welcome.

You inspired me to look at my one trime...dateless but smooth. It must have bought a lot of stamps.
Two and three cent pieces are always interesting, because these denominations do not exist today (half cents as well). They are great conversation starters and will always be interesting. I think just about everyone starts out collecting raw coins, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I myself have been collecting for 20+ years and to this day still keep a raw coin album. I like to think of us coin collectors, not as owners of these coins, but as stewards and protectors of them.
Enjoy the hobby. It's a lot of fun, and very addictive.
No apology necessary!
I think you may have read something into my post that was not intended to be there. My post was meant purely as support since you wrote under the image of your coin something about it being damaged and folks might not like it. We like it! It's all good...

Ah, got it, thanks lol
@dan9090.... Welcome aboard.... Nice old trime.... I do not have one of those, though when I used to go to coin shows out West, I was interested in them... Just never actually bought one. Cheers, RickO
Looks like she was well loved early in her life.
Congrats!

And on top of that, it shouldn't matter whether we like it or not. What matters is whether you like it. Our feedback should be taken with a grain of salt as we all have differing likes and dislikes and opinions... And they are all likely at least somewhat if not entirely different than yours.
With that said, many of us here do enjoy giving feedback! Have fun with it! As long as you are having a good time, that's what's most important imo.

Nice pick up. If only it could tell the stories of where it's been.

Just imagine that 3C piece paid for a meal at one time!
I wonder if these were even used in general circulation and given as change or just used to exchange 3 cent stamps. Thats why they were made, after all, but it doesn't make sense to mint so many for just that purpose while also making it a legal currency. At the same time it's an unusual number to count by when making change. Just a strange coin overall
Some interesting tidbits. The government actually reduced the cost of a postage stamp from 5 cents to 3 cents at this time. Merchants and people found the 1/2 cent and 1 cent to large and cumbersome to carry around or deal with, hence its production. The pictured coin was the Type 1 Trime and at that time was produced at less the its intrinsic value, about 2.5 cents. Largely tp prevent hoarding and melting. In todays dollars, it had about the same buying power as $2.50

Often these little buggers get damaged, bent or otherwise. So little! Glad you got one, I think I have one too, but just one for the type collection.
