@MasonG. Pictures of other copper coins displaying similar marks, and/or an explanation as to how a contact or circulation mark may have caused the copper to look as though there had been other slightly embossed numbers in that particular spot before being struck with the 1930 date.
My only question now to research is, what is small enough, yet hard enough to make a mark such as the one in the center of the 0 either through contact or circulation? I mean, that’s a pretty small opening, so whatever it was that made that mark, would have to be smaller than that opening, yet possess enough weight and strength of material to create a mark like that on the copper.
@emeraldATV. I see the scratch you’re talking about on your 39, but the way the light refracts off the surface of the coin, makes it difficult for me to see the entire image of the 2, but I appreciate your feedback as well as your advice about moving on and documenting other finds.
I thought what I was seeing on my coin more closely resembled machine doubling in the shape of a 2 that was then covered by the 3 later on.
