An apology to Heritage is probably in order for that silly remark. Then, we all can get back to the saga of whether your coin(s) are going to arrive sometime in February or just in time for the tip-off of “March Madness”! 😂

Ask DW what his "extortion fee" is. I bet he won't even tell you. Walmart has about a 40% "EF" on many items, they just aren't considerate enough to spell it out separately
Okay, point taken maybe I should have toned down a bit. It was late and I was jacked on caffeine and couldn’t close my eyes.
But really, the only point I was really trying to make is, if you’re going to charge me a 20% “fee” shouldn’t you at least deliver the coin within the time frame YOU set. Is that reasonable to someone/anyone?
I mean if they suddenly changed their policy to say delivered within 30 days, at least I know it could take a month and that’s that.
They haven’t even sent the damn thing yet, which means, even if they send it tomorrow, it’s going to be at the 17 day mark, from payment.
Can you kinda, just maybe see my thought out logic here?😉
I haven't bought much from HA lately, but my experience back when I was getting a few coins a month was that their shipping was better than most, and in some cases surprisingly fast. The last few things have taken longer.
Some of that is HA. Some is the USPS or other carriers. Some of that is the banking industry. COVID really hit EVERYTHING in the customer service arena hard.
I also think that in many cases Heritage takes care of their "regulars" first. It's just good business to do so. This group would include many dealers and many individual collectors. This would explain the difference in people's experiences as described above. A random person who wins a lot a handful of times a year probably doesn't have established credit and probably doesn't have a long track record of successful transactions. If your payment takes a long time to clear, they're going to drag their feet. A person with a seven-figure line of credit will probably get their coins first.
That's all just a guess though.
Tell me one thing in the world that is working efficiently these days.
Same experience as most here, I will win an auction and pay my invoice, and it all goes dark. No status updates, no tracking number, nothing. Eventually it always does arrive, and they have the best selection and best auctions, so overall I remain a loyal customer. Just wish they could keep us posted on status.

I understand your logic completely, and I too like to receive my coins quickly so I’m not discrediting your opinion about shipping time, but would like to emphasize another one of @jmlanzaf’s points again. The “buyers” premium is really a just a moniker for “sellers premium”. As a buyer, I bid knowing what I want to spend, period. I factor that into my bid amount and consider the total amount I get invoiced to be my purchase price. The seller is the one that has to sacrifice ~20% of the coins market value to the auction venue.

True that, for some sellers, their taking it on the chin, for others not as much. That BP is going in so many directions I’ll bet it would blow your mind, if you actually saw the breakdown.
But, when alls said and done, Heritage is keeping a nice amount for Heritage. And this is revenue for them. And they really have no shipping expense because they turn around and hit you with an additional shipping charge, outside of the BP.
So the buyer is paying his own shipping cost and with what Heritage is making, they ought to meet their projected delivery date, IMO.
And for many they certainly do. It’s the one or two occasional coin purchases that they can do with or without, and that’s me!😉
I would like to emphasize @jmlanzaf ’s response here. When you say you want “actual eyes” on the coin by purchasing from a dealer, keep in mind that the dealer is going has a significant interest in the sale of that coin. Do you think he/she would give you an opinion highlighting the coins flaws or advise you not to buy it? Regardless of Heritages interest in an auction or fixed sale, @MFeld ’s in hand reviews are best in class in terms of an objective opinion, and he’s no less of a “pro” than anyone else you might purchase a coin from.
@MFeld is more of a "pro" than 99.9% of anyone else you might purchase a coin from. If Mark likes a coin, that coin is really something and there should be no hesitation in doing what it takes to acquire it.

I have had both good and bad shipping times from Heritage. They used to ship me the coin before I even payed. Not anymore. I would also say I have had similar experiences good and bad with all auction houses mentioned.
In my opinion, their shipping times have become unreasonable. At least for most folks. I put them behind Stacks, GC, Goldbergs, and really any dealer I know.
Admittedly, they are a big operation and it's not just coins. But buyers understandably want their items delivered quickly after paying, and Heritage doesn't make this a priority.

My guess is it is a weather delay in shipping. Perhaps a FUN back log also. Once paid for I assume they want the product out the door.. They are to big for shenanigan's and don't play favorites as far as I know. Just be cool, your coins will arrive..
When I buy a coin from Great Collections, I have the coin in hand in less than a week (shipped well over 1000 miles). Every single time (and there have been a good number of times).
When I buy a coin from HA, I have the coin in hand sometime in the next month or so. Maybe.
I pay the same way at both places--echeck, within a day of the close of the auction. And both ship with USPS first class mail (always tracked, and signature required when the coin is somewhat expensive).
I buy very few coins from HA, for this reason.
Maybe it shouldn't matter, but it annoys me. I prefer not to buy from places that annoy me (making exceptions only when I have been looking for a coin for a long time, and HA has it).
As a seller, I fail to understand why I would want to pay a 20% BP, when GC is much smaller; but that's only another reason why I'm not inclined to do business with them.

Depending on what you have, you might pay less as a seller at HA. Even more importantly, you might net more.
I just got my coin and I had not paid for it yet. Maybe you are new and they hold things back? I have been doing business for 25 years with them so they may do things different depending on the length of the relationship?
Oh, I love the BP when I’m on the seller side, buyer’s side not so much!😂
This is why you consign coins with dealers so you get part of the vig back. I always consign my sales. Same auction more money to me as a collector. I also almost use Legend to do my bidding, I get the expert eye and the BP is less. For the run of the mill coins I don't bother bothering Laura, but on big ticket things I go through her for coins.

They do have “preferential treatment” for customers that have a track record of bringing them business but this shouldn’t be surprising and isn’t uncommon for a lot of businesses. Just look at the travel industry as an example. When United is deciding who to give any space available upgrades to it’s largely determined by loyalty status. It’s good business to keep the customers happy who contribute the most to your bottom line.
Here is what was in an email from a recent invoice from HA. Keep in mind for me at least this only happens for smaller orders. I would assume that there are some forum members that have spent more in one auction than I have in aggregate at HA and are afforded even more leeway and given prioritization over my orders.
“Congratulations on your successful bids in our recent auction. Your amount due for winning is listed below.
IMPORTANT: To expedite shipment (as appreciation of your established loyalty), this invoice will be shipped on Open Account, without waiting to confirm payment.”
While there is no question that GC ships fast, I think coin security in the shipping department is a huge concern at a large organization like Heritage.
I've done pre auction inspections at the shows. A box of coins is brought out. Someone counts the number of coins in the box before it's given to me. That person closelyy watches me inspect the coins that interest me. Afterwards that person carefully counts the coins in the box before giving it back to the manager.
I just finished Ian Fleming's "The Diamond Smugglers" whereby mine workers are x-rayed for hidden diamonds before leaving the mines. The ability to smuggle out coins is a lot easier than smuggling out comic books.

Again, I'm not complaining. Occasionally there are delays. I'm simply pointing out that it can't be the weather for only one division in Dallas.
Sometimes, they ship the coins in a week or less. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks. I'm patient. But it ain't the weather... at least not last week.
My guess is it is a weather delay in shipping. Perhaps a FUN back log also. Once paid for I assume they want the product out the door.. They are to big for shenanigan's and don't play favorites as far as I know. Just be cool, your coins will arrive..
I have lots from December that have not been shipped.
