Thank you for starting a new thread, i won one as well and received Friday…
My plan is to NOT open the box or the shipping box until either they are shown to be pedestrian, or i will hang on to the unopened box indefinitely. This is the first series and i would imagine the second series will have a larger run? Regardless there are only 2400 coins/holders with this label.
Looking forward to seeing what folks get tho!!
I watched my first Vault Box opening video on YouTube. The guy opened 2 boxes. Needless to say the contents were underwhelming. Each box contained 3 ASE....that's it. Each graded 9.9 or 10. A losing proposition. I will take a Brock Purdy rookie card and spend the rest on a nice MS62 Large Cent.

The ONLY reason I opened this thread is because of the author (whom I like) and the ridiculous thread title (thinking, OMG, not another VB thread). Glad to see it was a joke!

I think it is an interesting way to make money for the seller(s). It can be a fun way for buyers to purchase coins if they choose. It also has the potential to bring new collectors into the coin market.
P.S. I'd love to see a pre-1965 US coin VaultBox priced at $295.

wow, your an academic right?
Yes. With a math degree. When it goes from 0 to 10, you call it a 10 point scale. There's millions of possible decimals between 0 and 10, but so what? And if you look at the grading scale as used, it does NOT have 100 gradations because they don't use every 0.1 gradation.
This reminds me of a near identical thread I started about CAC. 🤣
I stole it from you most likely. I recall a cac thread when there were 3 other running highly controversial cac threads, it began with “short essay thread….” I’m sure that one had to be yours then 😂

Actually, I wouldn't mind a post-1965 VB in the $100-$150 range. Obviously, they sold out quickly at $600. But there's a much bigger market with a lower price point.

Now about that $100.0 coin...
There are 100 different grades in this system.
Academia is so pious.
Really, you're the one who jumped on me for simply referring to it as a 10 point scale.
There are not 100 different grades. There's 29.
It starts at 1.0. Right off the bat, you're down to 90 possible numbers between 1.0 and 10.0. Then they don't use any numbers except full integers and half integers until 8.

It is a 100 point scale. Just because they chose not to use all the points on that scale, that is on them.
Now if there was only a 9.5 and 8.5, then that would be a 20 point scale. But they chose otherwise.
"A New Era of Coin Collecting Starts Now
NGC is the first grading authority to offer a 10-point grading scale for modern coins, with the same precision, consistency and guarantee we've been known for since our founding in 1987. Coexisting with NGC's industry-standard 70-point grading scale, NGCX makes it easier than ever for collectors of comics, trading cards, sports cards and other collectibles graded on a 10-point scale to expand their interest to coin"
If you would like to refer to it as a 100 point scale or an alligator scale or a fish scale, I don't really care. But calling me out for calling it what NGC calls it is a little pious, don't you think?
Now, about that $100.0 coin. Can I get it for $10.00 instead?
I regret (but not really?) to announce that I’ve accepted an offer for my box on eBay and the buyer has paid, I will be shipping it off to its final destination tomorrow when it arrives.
After seeing results of opened boxes and subsequent Vaultbox offers I’ve decided that it’s in my best interest to get out while the getting is still good. After eBay fees I will net around 900, so a 50% roi isn’t too shabby. I really did not intend to buy one to flip it, but when I considered the strong possibility that my $900 could become $300 tomorrow, I prefer not to sacrifice a guaranteed profit for the chance that I’ll “get lucky” and get a box worth $600-$700.

I think it's funny that over the many pages of VaultBox threads, no one really seemed to consider this third option. It appears to be a relatively safe gamble to try and flip the boxes, with more than a few selling for over $1000 on Ebay. So much arguing over this where there appears to be a simple, and relatively smart, way out.
