I wouldn't complain if it was in a 66 holder.

MS65/66 would be my guess nice looking coin, and it looks like it has a nice tone to it also.

    I like it as a 65. I wouldn't argue strenuously with a 66.

    I'm in the 65 camp.

Ill say 58+. Looks like a tiny bit of wear on the flank and shoulder. Could be wrong, it could be the photo. In ant case it looks really nice.

MS64 if the color change on the reverse is not rub; AU58 if it is. Would have to be in hand evaluation.

    66+

    1. I think the reverse is just weakness in strike. Really sharp coin except for that

I'm leaning to a ms 65/66 as well. (I could live with a 66+ even better)

  • BuffaloIronTailBuffaloIronTail Posts: 7,493 ✭✭✭✭✭

I like it as a 66. Almost a full strike with a weak rear leg. It also has been clashed, but a good job was performed at cleaning it up. By the way, clashes do not affect the grade.

The central obverse is beautifully struck, showing the extra detail in the knot that was enhanced for just that year.

Black Diamond has that rugged look that comes from a well struck coin.

Looks like He's ready to stampede.

I am thinking 66+ with some monster luster and nice rim toning.

My initial reaction is MS66, with all that luster dripping off of it. You don't see them like that very often.

    I call it a nice 64 but I think it's in a 65 holder.

I have been searching for a nice 21 for a while. I saw this coin come up for auction and thought it looked really nice. It already had a green sticker so I bid and won. Once I received the coin my jaw hit the floor. The color and luster are much nicer than I had anticipated. Needless to say I was happy. The coin has a gold purple and blue tone and drips with luster. The grade is PCGS MS65 and the coin is in an old blue holder. Next time I send coins to CAC I think I will include this one and try for a gold sticker. Thanks for your comments and guesses.

That is a very nice nickel... and I thought MS65 when I saw it.... Let us know if you submit for a gold sticker, and the results. Cheers, RickO
