Holy Moley I like this 1844/81 Large Cent! Final Price is in!

I just finished watching the Heritage Error Coin auction. Some very strong prices indeed. Inspired me to put in a pretty strong bid on Ebay for this one of a kind beauty. For real...I like this coin a lot. It would certainly add a character piece to my set and entertain the graders at our host for sure. What do you think?!

Pass for me, but if this is your thing, enjoy!
I like this holed off center large cent overdate! Fun to exhibit.
@lordmarcovan comes to mind.

Yes, that has character.
Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.
Very neat coin. It's not something I would chase, but if someone ever gave me one - I would be thrilled. Congrats!
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
The off-center strike and die variety more than offset the giant hole in my mind; I would happily welcome that coin into my collection of misfit toys.

Just a thought -maybe the hole is because of the off-center strike and die variety. Similarly to a recent thread about English Pennys being used as washers on a shingle job, it might have been abused because it wasn't "worth a darn anyhow" in the owner's mind.
I knew it would happen.
Cool! I can imagine that one in its former life spent as a watch fob that the owner could feel in his hands a few times everyday as he pulled on the leather strip hanging out of the pocket of his overalls to check the time of day on his trusty pocket watch. Occasionally maybe being shown to a youngster as a novelty.
Interesting coin... Not one I would purchase, but sure has curio features. Cheers, RickO
I like it a lot!
The diagnostics are definitely there... cool off-center strike too. I'm not a huge fan of holed pieces but I've actually bid on a few so I can put one on my keychain...

What would you speculate this one will close at?
My top bid of $80. last night was outbid by this morning.

@braddick I don't know....looks like it could be pretty high. Currently there are 18 watchers. Now I know who topped my bid of $75. The Heritage auction had details dateless off centers go for $600. An 1848 in Good 6 45% off center went for $1680. It is probably the only off center 1844/81 around. If you are putting together a date set of off center Large Cents then you would go to the mat for this coin..hole notwithstanding. I am going to guess someone will pony up close to $300 for this coin. Might even be me.... or you?
Cool Cent - lots of character......

Not me.
I bid on a whim.
It's fantastic- just not several hundred dollars worth of cool (to me).

VERY cool.
@HoledandCreative might like this one. He might already have one.
OK... I'm watching now too... where's my popcorn emogi...

Well a frenzied last 10 seconds overwhelmed my final bid and the hammer fell at $208.50. Not quite the $300 I had predicted but a strong price for a coin with such a large hole in it!
