Guy in my coin group swears up and down this isn’t heat damage

All I ask is for some experts to confirm this is heat damage, and not a “cud” error as he thinks it is

Firstly, a cud looks NOTHING like this. Cuds are die breaks from the rim into the coin design. Secondly, an interior die break (which is the proper term) ALSO looks nothing like this. This is just heat damage.
Someone was getting creative with a torch.

Sorry, idky why it double posted
The torch fell over and did all the damage, fwiw
Is this one of those facebook groups? I tried a couple of them and couldn't take it. If you correctly tell someone their coin is just damaged, you get ganged up on, called a hater, liar thief, you name it.
Someone needs to study about actual errors. The rim gash and the heat damage, hope you can redirect his focus. Good luck.

Looks like standard house-fire damage to me. The "cud" is caused by extreme heat - enough heat to make the metal somewhat soft, but not enough heat to outright melt it. The heat caused a microscopic bubble, caught between the clad layers, to expand and blow up like a balloon.
The blackened, granular appearance of the rest of the surface is entirely consistent with the "fire" hypothesis.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
Tell him to type “cud” into Heritage auctions and find any other coin that looks like his.
@ErrorsOnCoins
am i losing my mind or were we not the first ones to respond to the thread?
Sad. Very sad. People who don't know a coin from a hole in the ground have the gall to shoot fire at those that don't agree.
It's really frustrating, and the "haters" won't listen, nor will they educate themselves.
I guess it will take some of them getting "burned" like the coin before they hopefully understand.

The guy in your group has no clue what he is talking about.

Yep, I own and administrate a Facebook group. And yes, I know exactly how that is and that’s why I created my group as a zero tolerance zone for that crap. I banned one person today since he tried convincing this OP that his coin wasn’t heat damaged. Of course I tried explaining to him what it was and he basically said I have no clue what I’m talking about, and became extremely disrespectful. That led to his ban, and that is how my group is. One of my top rules is no spreading false information, and no insulting members, both of which he violated after being given a warning. I don’t like and have left/been banned from groups for telling mods that they were wrong when they very obviously were, and they didn’t like it, so off I was.
Yep, I know. I knew that, but he wouldn’t believe me without proof, so this was the first place I went
That’s exactly what it is… they only want a false reality and what THEY want to hear. If you tell them the truth, you’re automatically the idiot
With your guys’ help, I think he believes me now… but to him I’m still the “ignorant kid” because I wouldn’t allow a (now banned) group member to lie to him
No, you’re not losing your mind lol… the thread double posted for some reason, so you replied to the original post
Which facebook group is that? I might want to troll it.
This as a major problem in our society these days along with confirmation bias. Everyone thinks they're an expert on everything.
Understand the limits of your knowledge and ignore (or troll) those who don't.
I thought I could figure out which ones they were, but there were so many I can't remember. Do some looking on some of them, I imagine there are quite a few like this.
No doubt the coin has heat damage... and the definition of 'cud' is already posted above. Years ago I was on a couple of other coin forums, could not take the abject refusal to accept documented evidence of an issue when clearly presented. Much prefer the professionalism on this forum. Cheers, RickO
Oh joy. +1.
