Doug Bird passing

Did anyone else see that longtime Copper dealer and EAC member Doug Bird passed away on Thursday, January 5th, 2023?
Picked up many nice Late date coppers from him over the years. Also took his class with Steve Carr during ANA Summer Seminar.
Great Guy!
RIP

Always talked with Doug at any show I saw him; he gifted me this one back at a past ANA Chicago after saving a collector the mistake of purchasing it as genuine.

    He will truly be missed...

That's very sad news. Doug was an astute numismatist and an absolute gentleman.

Doug Bird was a gentleman and a superb numismatist. I took his course with Steve Carr I believe in Baltimore many years ago. Always enjoyed seeing him and dealing with him. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. May he RIP.

RIP. A tough few months for the copper community.

  • @UltraHighRelief that is true. With Walt Husak passing just recently, there have been some big losses in the
Copper community over the last few months.

For many years, Doug was the sponsor of the ANA Early American Copper Coin Project for YN's. He was most generous. He also always participated in YN Treasure Trivia at ANA shows. A real gentleman.

Sad to hear. I purchased some Large Cents from him back in the 1980's. A true gentleman.

Great guy. He and I shared tables back in the 80s, when he was a part-time dealer, with a stock of various US coins. He moved towards copper a bit later.

i was on the fence if i had met him and the name is for sure known and now i see his pic, i am certain i've talked to him a couple times.

so odd to see so many people i've met pass in just 5-10 years have passed and that is just numismatic circles.

glad you guys post these. :)

    Sad news - condolences. RIP.

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
