You no understand a wink of the eye? lol BUT yeah I am very partial to unopened these days.

I didn’t watch it…is this Marshall Fogel?
Yes it is. No card graded below a 8 in the collection.

Timing can play a big role in a collection like this, as those who focused on the very best condition when everyone else was just trying to land one in any condition), but nothing beats having the coin to spent as you wish. Going to make an assumption, since i have no clue, but I am guessing he bought all of that with money he could afford to have go towards a baseball card and not needed elsewhere for life's necessities. Deep pockets certainly puts you way in front of most others you compete with. He even said that he was considered an idiot for spending that much on the 52 Mantle at the time. But he had that money to spend on a baseball card when most probably couldn't have spent a 1/10th of that on a card at the same time.
He clearly invested in only the best and that will have served him very well if/when he decides to sell it all.
Amazing.. Can't stop dreaming
Would this beat Barry Halper's collection?

I know of 2 collections I'd much prefer to look at every day. "Best" is a term decided by the individual. For this collector, I'd take an Uncle Jimmy Goudey Ruth or Gehrig over high grade all day, every day. Whether it is a Frederick Foto Ruth or a pretty signed vintage card, I like cards that cannot readily be obtained simply by throwing money at the search. I'd take a Balt News Ruth in the lowest condition rating over a much more recent card with a high number on its sticker. Especially considering most high grade vintage cards graded in yesteryear would not grade the same today thanks to tightening standards/shifting goalposts.
That’s one of the greatest things about this hobby. There is something for everyone. If a ‘52 Mantle or a Ruth fell into my lap, I would absolutely sell it and use the proceeds to buy high grade cards from the 1970s sets I am interested in. That’s just what I like and care about, and that’s different for everyone. 👍
If I had the option. I would choose a Ruth 33 Goudey over Mantle.

If I were allowed to take anything off that table it would be the pair of ‘34 Goudey Gehrigs. I loved hearing him talk about the PSA10 Mantle. Sometimes a card speaks to us and gives goosebumps every time we look at it. Thanks for sharing the video.
Referring to Marshall's collection, I would always gravitate to his over-the-top PSA 10 GEM MINT 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. I admire all those other cards you gents said you'd rather have, but Marshall Fogel's collection is the kind of stuff dreams are made of. To be sure, they are common Topps, BUT they are in such uncommon condition to set themselves apart as museum pieces. Let's face it, when you own the 1952 and 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle in PSA 10 GEM MINT condition, you're "King of the hill". From MY standpoint, yes, but many, many, many other collectors would feel the same way.
If Pre-War makes your heart flutter, fine. It still took lot of cash to win / purchase all of these cards at the time they were available. For example, not everyone will want a rare, breathtaking 50s / 60s Ferrari racing sports car or Gran Tourismo; they'd much rather have a rare Shelby Mustang GT350 or GT500. Either way, you're gonna have to have deeper pockets than the other guy who wants one. With all of those types of cars, you will most assuredly not be alone in bidding for ownership.
Furthermore, continuing with the "rolling art" category, there were a few cars known for generations to be unobtainable. The best one I have known about since I was a child in the 60s---the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR coupe, also known as the Uhlenhaut coupe. I won't weary you with history or details; you likely couldn't appreciate them anyway. Long to short, the highest price paid for a car was perhaps $58,000,000 for a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO UNTIL last year. In May 2022, the previously mentioned Mercedes came on the market by its owners, Mercedes-Benz themselves. When the gavel struck for the last time, expensive was reinvented-----$142.9 million dollars.
Happy collecting in 2023.

Since everything in Marshall's collection is actually authentic, yes, it beats Barry's collection.
Is anyone here familiar with Geoff Wilson? The Sports Card Investor.
At the end of the video, Fogel demonstrates some true humility with respect to collecting what one has. Boy do I definitely agree.
There's a longer version of the video also.
Makes me feel less than average.

This is a great video and I loved seeing Marhall's collection. That said, Geoff Wilson is a hack.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

Fantastic collection.
Cards are beautiful works of art.
These works of art and collections are taken to an even higher level when athletes sign them.
Few things are truly beyond words. This collection is a museum. Wonderful video and he seems like a very genuine man.

I want to watch the video but can't stand Wilson.
Can someone fill me in on Geoff Wilson? I watched the video and loved it. I have seen a couple of his videos. Why is he a hack?
Shane
He believes Will Grier is 5x the investment Kyler Murray is....or he just had lots of rookies of Will Grier to sell to his sheep. xD
Marshall just throwing those beautiful cards around like it’s a poker table gave me hives…..😬
The way I try to take good care of my slabs it made me feel dirty. Kinda like eating a greasy/oniony Gyro at bartime just before bed. 🤣
