Usually a die crack starts at one edge and goes to the interior.

Here's a real die crack on a modern Lincoln. No microscope needed!
It's not uncommon to have chips, cracks, and breaks on Memorial columns. They can be helpful PUPs for die variety identification.
From the pics, it looks like the other columns have developed some chips and cracks,so this could be a larger break.
