Seahawks playoff question ??

paulb71paulb71 Posts: 333 ✭✭✭✭

If the Seahawks are currently the 7th seed and the packers are in the hunt, and both teams play a division game this week and if the Seahawks win you are telling me that by Seattle winning this week they will fall out of the playoffs?

I would say there is a zero percent chance the lions will win a road game in Green bay sunday night

The Seahawks, Lions, and Packers are all 8-8, and tied for the final NFC wildcard spot (from a pure Win/Loss perspective).

Seattle owns the head-to-head tiebreaker vs the Lions. As a result, if they both finish 9-8, the Seahawks would make the playoffs. In this scenario, the Lions would have to beat the Packers Sunday night.

If the Seahawks and Packers both lose, the Lions advance (highly unlikely).

The Seahawks and Packers have not met this year, so the next tiebreaker is Conference record. Seattle is 5-6, the Packers are 6-5. So, if the Seahawks and Packers both win this weekend, and finish 9-8, the Packers would gain the final wildcard spot.

    P.S. Go Lions!!!!!

Thanks Dave but why is Seattle currently the 7th seed and Green Bay is the 9th seed if Green Bay currently has a better conference record ?

GB is the only of the 3 teams vying for that final spot that controls their fate so I'd say GB is the 7th seed, really.

Since there is a 3 way tie right now the tie breaker is different.

One of the things being considered now that the Bengals-Bills game is being officially canceled is also adding an 8th seed to the playoffs and eliminating the bye week.

What I am thinking is the tie breaker must be whichever teams opponents has a better winning percentage against division opponents and since Detroit has a much better record then Los Angeles that could be the only reason I see Green bay with a edge over Seattle ?

So what does the coach tell his team ? hey guys we are currently in the last playoff spot with only 1 game to go !!! but if we happen to win our last game we will miss the playoffs huh ???

These are the playoff scenarios now. A loss eliminates each team.

    No. 7 seed wild card

Packers (8-8) clinch with: win vs. Lions

Lions (8-8) clinch with: win at Packers AND Seahawks loss/tie vs. Rams, OR tie vs. Packers AND Seahawks loss vs. Rams, OR tie vs. Packers AND Rams-Seahawks tie AND Commanders win vs. Cowboys

Seahawks (8-8) clinch with: win vs. Rams AND Packers loss/tie vs. Lions, OR tie vs. Rams AND Lions-Packers tie AND Commanders loss/tie vs. Cowboys

Agreed. Same as hockey and basketball (before basketball even expanded it further).

The Seahawks don't belong in The Dance, but alas, here we are.

As a 49er fan I think this is a great matchup for their 1st round.
As a Seahawks fan I have to agree with everyone,
They don't belong and it will be a potential bloodbath.
Of course I felt the same way in 2010 when the 7-9 Seahawks played the 11-5 Saints in the NFC Wild Card round.

Ditto for Tampa, but the misery will be over quickly. For Tampa, one and done.

If New Orleans is dumb enough to sign Brady, they can enjoy watching the post season from the sidelines too.
