I don't collect gold but I do collect contemporary counterfeits. Not sure if this contemporary or a modern counterfeit but I liked it. Also, the seller did list it as a counterfeit and it was a bargain so I bought it. I'm assuming its a spark erosion counterfeit from an authentic coin. The weight is way off at only 7.15g, should be close to 16.72g and it did slightly stick to a strong magnet, It does have a reeded edge. Wonder if it is a known counterfeit?

Any opinions on the photos. Trying out the new D3500 Nikon and Sigma 105mm macro lens. The lights are two overhead Ikea Jansjo lights. Thanks for any feedback!

The edge shot shows the metal to be brighter than the obv or rev. Is that true?

No the edge is the same color as the rest of the coin.

Nice photos. A bit dark, maybe a 3rd light is needed? I have a few contemporary counterfeits myself. Bought them as fakes.

Thanks! Yeah need to experiment with the light positions more. Sometimes the pics get too bright. I need to wrap them in something to diffuse the light. Is it worth it to buy diffusing paper or just wrap them in tissue paper?

The pictures are very good.... especially that edge shot, nice detail. I always prefer reality shots to beauty shots. Cheers, RickO

you MAY need to either get the lights closer to the coins or adjust some brightness settings, perhaps even change the aperture a bit to allow more light in.

that said, you are just right there at easily 8.5 out of 10. great presentation as well. :+1:

look forward to seeing different types of coins imaged, toners, proofs, slabs etc.

nothing wrong with honest tweaking in post-processing.

glad i did all of this. your image is WAYYYY too big in MB at 7+ for the obv/rev. if you use ms paint or try other programs you like, just drop them into a program and re-save them. it will automatically reduce the size (usually) probably because of the various algorithms each program uses.

here is an example, granted this is pretty much the extreme of how small in dimensions/size i could get the best looking images but the trade-off is that you can't enlarge my image very much w/o pixelation although it still isn't too bad.

1500x750 - 600kb (well under 1 MB for the obv AND rev. :) - took a while to perfect this and it is soooo simple.

you may want to keep the orignals in a separate folder and make a copy for tweaking, that way you can always go back and have the full unedited image as it came out of the camera. :)

    apologies for the long post.

Will play around with the editing. All I did was crop and resize for this photo. I'm thinking maybe I forgot to resize the merged image or not lol. Im using the free version of photoscape. Thank you for the feedback and editing!

Practice. Try anything and everything until you find something that works! Practice practice practice! Try closer, try farther... If you have a photo editing like photoshop sometimes a simple auto contrast adjustment makes wonders for me.
