Half dollars

I have gone to several banks trying to get half dollars but none seem to have any. Does anyone know of a chain of banks that at least is likely to have half dollars? Any help would be appreciated

A bank chain would not guarantee you finding halves. Rather then driving in circles, google all banks located in your area and call them first and ask. It's completely random if banks have them or not. It mostly depends of customers are bringing them in.

P.S. If you have an account at a bank, you might be able to order a box.

I like customer wrapped rolls and don't usually mess with bank wrapped rolls. The odds are better with customer wraps. It is just luck based what you'll find, so just keep driving around.

If you really want to coin roll hunt, order a box like the others said.

It will all depend on the manager of the branch if they will assist in what you want. I've been to a branch where they were charging 10 cents a roll, refusing to sell a box to me and to another of the same corporation where they let me have as many quarter boxes as I wanted. You may also be able to order boxes, but same thing applies, if the branch manager will let you order them or not.

@SPCTR.... Welcome aboard.... It is mostly a random thing. I frequently ask the teller if they have any half dollar rolls. Six out of ten times they may have one or two. I only go to one bank anymore... so if you were to call several, it will increase your chances. Cheers, RickO

do they simply refuse or do they say because they can't get any? i THINK there is some small fee(s) involved so maybe offering up to pay may help?

usually my tellers will posit other solutions if what i am asking for isn't workable at the time.

i was even told on my most recent trip that they may not have any that they can SPARE as they try to keep a certain amount on-hand for certain businesses. the FIRST time i ever heard them say such a thing and i thought it was a first come scenario not that it bothers me as we do want businesses to function smoothly, including having change.

i've been in line when certain businesses run out of change at the register and have to borrow from other registers or get some out of the safe etc and it REALLLY holds up the lines.

Was it a teller that told you this?

Now go back and talk to a manager. All banks order penny's, nickels, dimes and quarters. There's no reason they can't add an order for a box of halves for you. Especially, since you're an account holder. Don't take no for an answer. In a professional polite manner, elevate your request up their chain of command.

If at some point, you feel you have hit the wall......fine, let it go.

One other thing. If this strategy works and your lucky enough to get a box. Made sure you pick that box up when it comes in. One thing the banks hate, is when they orders coins for people and the person doesn't come back to pick them up! Also, make sure you tell them you will not bring them back.

If I ran a bank, I wouldn't order halves. It's not free to get coins. Why would I subsidize CRH?

I've tried with my local bank and it has been a NO-GO. However, My local Credit Union has tried to order boxes for me and have gotten 3 boxes of half dollars ( have found 10 plus silver JFK's) from them. Whenever i want a box of coins, they try their best to order them, and 75 % of the time I leave the lobby with what i asked for. I gave all the tellers IHC's for Christmas this year and try to bring in coins that they have never seen before. Just building a relationship with the bank/CU is very helpful. When i go into my bank or CU it's like CHEERS, everyone know my name. :)B):)

Banks are making money off the balance in your account. The cost to ship a box of coins is certainly more than offset by the profit made from your account, of course this depends on how much you keep in the account. I think keeping a customer satisfied with their banking experience would be worth it to the bank.
FWIW last time I tried I was able to order a box of halves, this was probably 2 or 3 years ago though. I did assure them that I would not be bringing them back.

I orederd a box of halves from my CU here in Denver last week. They said they'd call when they arrive, hopefully not to long...
