Numismatic year in review…

So, I’ve been on hiatus for the better part of a year. What have I missed? I know about JA’s announcement.

Well, there have been several Fairmont auctions of old gold and prices stayed strong to the end. Especially the CAC branch mint items. Many more collectors now have coins from that era then ever before. The demand is strong.

we, the forum, had a meeting and unanimously decided it is ok to drop multi-million dollar coins. go figure.
ngc has a new grading scale.
there are still ocean treasures being found, also in peoples homes.
there is supposedly a new roman emperor (a little one?) based on a shoddy "gold" coin that was found, that looks highly spurious
edited to add:
the unique $3 1870-s has been in concrete, jewlelry, graffitied, polished and whom knows what else and is straight-graded and is up for auction if you want to put in a high bid.
welcome to life on (hopefully) the back-end of SARS CoV2 (the thing c19 starts life as)
You missed out on lots of new parking lot finds/errors that the posters swear are highly valuable and rare.

Are you referring to NGCX? I’m looking through their site, but I’m confused as to why and how the scale is materially different other than changing the numbers.
ya. that's the one.
a scale of 1 to 10 is easier on us hoopleheads i think? although, i think there is 100 grades. 1.1, 1.2 et al.
early pcgs and ngc holders brought (bringing) unimaginable premiums.
Maybe we should go back to "that looks purdy good, but maybe a brillo pad might help".

Coin photography has certainly improved...as the above example attests to.... Many members are showing amazing skill in photography of coins. Cheers, RickO
Much hair to you!
But only if you do it on a carpet!
I don't think it's supposed to be materially different than changing the numbers. The coins are the same. The numbers will allow collectors of other areas to have a common grading scale.
