Hawaii 1847 cent...should I add it to my Large Cent set?

It is an ANACS Unc. net 40. These are super pricey and I kinda like the funky design. For $300 I think it would be a fun coin to have. The colors of the corrosion are kind of funky and add to the head on design. All opinions are invited.

I recommend you add it. Hawaii became part of the United States, so it has historical relevance. Nice looking coin. Cheers, RickO
While it has a nice historical tie, I am never in favor of buying problem coins a hard pass for me.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Not sure the value of these but I would save my money until I could afford a problem free coin even in a lower grade. Really cool design and history.
Add a Hawaiian cent to your set? Sure. Just not that coin, hold out for a problem free example.

If I intended to buy the coin, I would far prefer this one for a little more($390), currently on ebay. No connection to seller or coin. Still a details coin, but looks good and with a soak, who knows. Being Christmas an offer of $350 might be accepted. JMO

How much are these problem free?
I think of these as $800-$100 in choice AU-tops! And I would prefer, and have preferred, to hold out for a nice one.

With 100,000 mintage and the fact that they have nearly doubled in price in the last 2 years makes them fairly expensive in any problem free grades.

Opinions? Ok. You should buy what you like, for whatever reason makes sense to you. Your decision shouldn't be based on what other people think you should buy.
Without the posts asking opinions, the forum would be a one-pager. Ask for opinions and then do what you want.

Add, but not this one.

I'd wait for a better specimen, unless it's a good match to your large cents.
I love the idea of buying one, but I'd much prefer a problem-free example.
I have a circulated Hawaii dime and quarter and some day hope to add the half, dollar, and cent.
That $300 was burning a hole in my pocket. Last gift to myself ....for my Late Date Large Cent by Newcomb set. Was one of Bob Grellman's coins. Thanks for all the input. Coast Coins has a nice Hawaii 1847 NGC MS61 for $1150. My birthday is in February. One never knows.
I don't think you will be happy with that piece down the road. It is quite unattractive, and as it has been pointed out already, for a little more you could buy something you'll be proud to own. This issue is not rare, and you likely will not have to settle for this corroded problem coin.

Good advice here. Indeed wait for a problem free example and preferably with good eye appeal.
