Haven't heard from anyone on the forum re the eartquake near Eureka, Ca. I know that Joe Best(CHD) and his family live in nearby Chico, Ca, I have sent him a message but have not heard back. I hope no one on the forum have suffered due to this tragedy, nor anyone else for that matter. If anyone here has been in contact with Joe since the quake I would love to know. Joe and family surely do not need another catastrophe in their lives, as does no one. Joe let us know.

Hope everyone is well - I moved from SC coast to Ohio Inland from Lake Erie, I was terrified of Hurricanes - I couldn't imagine being through an earthquake.

ferndale was reported to have been hit hard.
I have friends in Eureka. Years ago, I mentioned about the earthquakes near Ferndale. she said, " Oh yea, they get a lot of earthquakes down there".

Sorry to be difficult, but as a Northern Californian, it's important that you know that Chico and Eureka are nowhere near each other in terms of seismic impact area. They're about 200 miles apart which is twice the distance from Sacramento to San Francisco. Zero possible impact.
I have a lifelong friend who lives by French’s Tourist Resort, that’s 10 miles south of Garberville. Eureka/ Ferndale is 40-50 north. His power was out but no damage. He said that ferndale area is a convergence of several faults. He’s next to the Eel River. His friends up In Eureka got a pretty good shake and plenty of aftershocks.

I had no idea of range or distance. Joe contacted me last evening and they are ok. I hope the sad results are as minimal as possible and no members suffer from the quake. I wish all a safe and Merry Christmas.

That is a strong quake. I hope all are ok... reports said some injuries, no deaths reported. When I lived in Seattle We had a big one (2001, 6.8).... Small ones are fairly common, but that big one sure did get my attention. Cheers, RickO
