Why in hosts price guide does the PO-01 have a higher price than some of the better grades? Is this a typical of Morgans?
I think it's the mirror of "top pop" getting a much higher value (because a few well-heeled people compete for them): There is an odd (to me) phenomenon these days of putting together a low-ball collection, so there would be some competition for P01 coins (and little competition for slightly less worn coins).
Yes Poor-01 – and the value of such a coin would probably shock you:
– In December at Heritage, an NGC PO01 1878 7/8TF VAM 41 (somewhat common) sold for $780
– In December at Heritage, an NGC PO011889 VAM 19A (somewhat common) sold for $660
– In January on eBay, a PCGS PO01 1880-S VAM 11 (common) sold for $600
I think the date will fetch the P-1 score. Nice hit. Many P-1 coins are listed higher than Fr2 up, due to registries I would imagine. Look at the Large and Half Cent coins.

It's a 1878 7/8TF btw!!
Cool Morgan. I’m torn between a 1 and 2. Guess I’d lean P01 on this well traveled beauty.
Dave
I think it’s a po1

FA02!

I’m NOT a lowball guy but it looks like a lot of detail for a 1 to me. I hope you get what you want.
What is below P-01? P-0.5? I'd go with that.
I am not good with these super low grade coins... sure looks like a PO1 to me... Let us know what the TPG says. Cheers, RickO
Fingers crossed🤞

I think so.

I'm in agreement with the P-1 grade. The old gal deserves her rest and appreciation!
