What am I missing here?
Everyman set competition? It looks weakly struck and hairlined, and what's with the hairlines near the date? CAC may like it, but I was relieved the price skyrocketed way beyond what I was planning to bid.

AU58 auction is why.

This is the best of the best (plastic-wise) for an Everyman's set. There is only 1 AU-58 CAC for 1887.
Seems a bit cuckoo. AU-58 CAC is the new MS-67 for these sets or like P-01 for lowballs.
That is surely an acquisition for a set.... Point value rules. Cheers, RickO
WOW! Maybe my seated AU58s need a trip to the bean house...
You're not missing a thing.
AU58. The poor mans MS68.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Valued at only a dollar!

Wow. I’d much prefer this MS65 for the exact same price:

Nothing is as expensive as free money.
If it’s weakly struck and full of hairlines, why would you even contemplate bidding? Cleaned dreck shouldn’t be part of anyone’s collection
