Hi guys,
Just came back from a local coin show. I purchased this cool sealed mint bag. Hoping to find the well known variety, "Wide Rim." Maybe, we'll come across one with that elusive condition. ms 67 or higher?

Come along

with me in my journey in these 100 trinkets!
lol
Thanks

Let's GO...

It should be interesting. Nice specimens bring really good money now days. There aren't as many chBU's as is assumed apparently.

It's a shame it has no month specified.

  • joeykoinsjoeykoins Posts: 16,581 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just started searching. Taking my time. Only searched through about 5.
    Lol. No WR's yet.
    Thanks

    So far, nothing.
Just continuous average looking. Same tone appearances. No "Wide Rims".
A couple less effected damage ones. But that's it, kinda boring hunt thus far?
    :p

    Went through about 40.

Looks like that was a bag you may have kept unopened!

@JoeyCoins ... Too bad no WR's..... I have a pile of those - well, sort of a pile, in a cigar box. Never checked for the WR.... Will have to do that some snowy day - oooops, it snowed yesterday. :D;) Cheers, RickO

i think the odds of finding a Wide RIM in the wild is ...less than 5% and that is only for 79 P's

any keepers from the bag ???

I found 3 while CRHunting and purchased one, still in its cellophane.
No, none kept. Cashed all in.

Better than a stick in the eye. Examining coins is very relaxing to me.

My question is, why was the mint making $100 bags of dollar coin?

Was that a special packaging for collectors? 🤔

The month would have been on the outer box

I'm not to sure about that. I think it all depends on your location. Some guys have these W Rims coming out their butts. Just like the W quarter rage. Some guys have searched rolls and boxes of quarters for years and have never found one. Other guys are drowning in them.

I have one in MS and I don't even collect the small dollar coins. BUT I think it came from eBay not the posterior! :D

Yes, the 100$ bag was a marketing gimmick by the Mint for collectors

well ...with casual roll searching in the 15 years. I've kept track of how many wide rims I've come across. With a total of 940 1979 P's only 7 have been wide rims. That is less than 1% that have come across my desk here in Upstate NY.

If anyone gets a higher percentage roll searching. Share your numbers. thanks Snowman

We had a brief discussion about this in the CRH thread a couple months ago.

I've been searching rolls since before '79. Including small dollar rolls where SBAs show up a lot.
Can't say I've done more than a handful of original '79 SBA rolls, and of course checking my change lol...

But I have still NEVER found a wide rim SBA.
