Unusual Road Kill Quarter

I found this quarter on the street while walking. The color didn’t look right so I looked at it more closely and noticed the grove that goes a the way around it. Did someone try to cut it in half?

It's been in an acid bath which ate away the copper core faster than the nickel cladding because the copper is a more reactive metal.
I second the acid bath diagnosis. The copper core is softer than the alloy cladding and dissolves at a faster rate.
Yep... acid bath or acidic soil... Acidic soil will do that also, though takes longer. Cheers, RickO
Gun cleaner wercs as well maybe longer
We need better pics. Perhaps emeraldATV can help.
