Older PCI Holders... thoughts?
resized.jpg)
Hey Everyone... I took a chance on a Half Dime for the 7070 last night... hammered for less than $40. Crummy seller pics... I thought earlier "photo-certified" coins were somewhat accurately graded. This one looks better than 30... thoughts?

Hit and miss. The good ones were cracked out.
For $40 you did well. Keep it in the holder. You know old plastic is worth more than the coin sometimes...this may be one of those times.
Would have to be a heck of a deal for me.
I think you did well. I'd buy that every day for $40. As others have said, keep it in the PCI Photo Slab.
Cannot really assess the grade from the pictures, but looks nice. For the price, looks like a good deal. Keep it and enjoy it. Cheers, RickO
I have one in my collection!
1882 toner
Yes! I do believe it would grade higher than the 61.
Although, Never to be taken out of the Classic holder.

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Probably XF, doesn't affect value much, in fact having coins undergraded in an old holder may be an advantage.
Looks 35. Nice buy for $40. Don't see much seated coins in the old photo holders.
Nice purchase, not too often that you see seated coins in these holders. From the mostly white color on a circ piece I'm thinking it may have been dipped or cleaned prior to being put in the holder. But that will be easier for you to assess once in hand.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Definitely a nice pickup. Congrats. I love the photo holders. Here are a few of mine:

@lkenefic yours is the 4th generation of the PCI holders.
Gen1: Photo has the grade bottom right corner, nothing on the back.
Gen2: Photo has no grade, and nothing on the back.
Gen3: The Cert# is also on the back - like @joeykoins
Gen4: Cert# and barcode on the back
@pointfivezero there are actually two different kinds of photo slabs you are showing... the Accugrade photoslabs are a three-compartment (Label, coin, and photo) as described in Accugrade's patent. The PCI slabs (Global/International) are Two compartment (coin and a die-cut insert) which would have worked around Accugrade's patent.

Thanks @BStrauss3. Great info, as always!

@BStrauss3 ...Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!
The piece doesn't seem that difficult to find as Type, so getting a duplicate shouldn't be hard... initially, I was going to crack it for the album but if keeping it in the plastic is ultimately going to give a better return, I'll just keep it as is... once it gets here, that is...
I've seen collectors looking for rare plastic... just how "rare" is a fourth gen PCI holder? Not my area of collecting. Thanks!

Here is a type 1 photo cert with the grade on the front.
Here is a type 2 photo cert.

I only have this one. The grade looks about right.

Did Mr. Beardsley from Chattanooga, TN run a later version of PCI? I remember him at the Baltimore show.
Do we have some sorta time line for when the different type were first put out?
Like the ANACS Photo certs. (Which were dated)

oldslabholders.com has alot of good information on their slab histories page.
I would like to add my low number PCI holder to the thread, it actually has some luster showing.
I agree the sellers pics don't show the coin very well. I suspect an old cleaning retoned or a dip retoned ,,, neither would be great for your 7070, and might be better flipping old slab or trading for something else. When the coin arrives, you will have better view.
Yes. Brian's time was eventful. After his death, the company was sold to Leslie Slade.
