I bought this coin raw for my daughter about 22 years ago when I was collecting error type sets for my family members birth years. I have since disassembled the sets and put them into inventory.
Well, about 12 years ago, I took this raw coin and another 1996 super nice raw error coin and a Hobo Nickel by a famous artist given to my daughter and put them in 2x2's and then in a 20 pocket archival slide page.
Fast forward, a couple years later, I go looking for the 2 raw error coins and I can't find them anywhere. Hours and hours spent searching.
A couple years later, I remember about the lost coins and go looking again and turn my office upside down. Unfound after hours and hours of looking. I keep thinking about the trash can story.
About 3 years later when I started getting my raw coins certified, I spent hours looking again to no avail.
A couple years later when I am finishing up all my raw coins to submit or sell, I do massive search. I look everywhere. I do not find the coins.
This summer, I am going on an overnight fishing trip and I hear listening to music may help with seasickness. I start looking for my old iPod. I look for hours on end and can not find it. I rip everything apart looking for it. I have 5 file cabinets in my office. I search every drawer of every cabinet and can't find it. Then I see ....
... some slide pages bending over the back of one of the drawers and pull it out and there are some coins from my daughters old birth year set, but not the missing coins. I look frantically thinking about the lost error coins but do not find them. Shit. I then pulled the drawer from the very bottom of the cabinet and lo and behold, the missing coins are on the ground under the bottom drawer. Found about 20 years after I lost them.

Was this coin written up in Errorscope? I remember a similar error featured in an article by Mike Diamond, explaining the chain of events leading to that unique appearance.

wow
a double struck through die cap with great rotation between AND 1996.
The coin is not double struck.
It was struck thru a rotated die cap.
Close enough...

Let me know if it's for sale.
Now that's the kind of error I like seeing.
