Sometimes going through old piles a gem will be found.
Not good enough to grade but good enough as a filler in a book.

Nice save. The hunt continues. A friend just gifted me a big jar of wheaties. Lots of early dates 09-39 made it a treat. Peace Roy

So this old pile of wheats was in your house and you started looking through them? You cherrypicked your own coins? Great find! πŸ‘πŸ»

That's one of my greatest fears or concerns. Having something significant or rare in my collection and not know it. :o

I can't believe that any coin collector would leave an unsearched pile of wheat cents lying around the house for any period of time. I check the date on every wheat cent I encounter in change as well.

There are people out there (maybe not the OP) that HOARD coins, buckets, bags, suit cases, 55 gal drums, full of coins. And trust me, they don't know what they have.

    Fyi
This is at least the second time this year an old stash of cents provided me with a find. Earlier this year I posted discovering 94 (about 56 of which were graded ms65) 1970s small date.

I don’t hoard to the degree oakstar mentioned but when I get a bunch of coins I look for silver coins because that interests me and the balance (like Lincoln cents or foriegn coins) I let sit until I am bored then I will go through them. Yes, I do have more piles to go through and maybe someday i will.

I am having fun and I wish/hope everyone else involved in this hobby is having at a minimum as much fun as me. πŸ™‚

Oh haha! I just found a gold 1930 20 franc in my collection. I thought it was a modern coin from some foreign country. The 30 looked like a 80
