Nice Pickup, this is my only Gold coin from one of my Aunts. She was gonna pawn it and I bought and had it graded to keep in the family.

And WW I had just ended.
Most people don't know -- it gets overlooked being caught between WW I and The Great Depression -- but there was a "mini-Depression" in 1921 that actually precedes The Roaring Twenties. James Grant wrote an excellent book about it years ago and I am currently reading it. What makes it so notable -- aside from being overlooked -- was that this downturn more or less cured itself by letting prices and wages adjust rather than relying on fiscal or monetary stimulus.
The 1921 "Panic" was mostly concentrated in plunging commodity prices, augmented by the continued re-intergration of armed forces into civilian populations, the devastation in Europe, and the end of the Flu Pandemic.
Many of the people who later advised FDR about economic and gold policy made their bones studying the interplay of commodity prices, production, and exchange rates in the 1920's.
.
The 1921 recession was "cured" by a massive increase in leverage on the gold standard. By 1933 the gold-clause circulating paper currency was leveraged about 11:1 to the amount of gold that was actually there to back it.
.
Lots of nice saints, of course the design certainly makes it one of the most beautiful coins produced.i noticed some color on a couple saints.
And love darktone's old Rarcoa envelope and '23-D Saint in a black Cot-Well holder. A lot of nice coins have passed through 31 N Clark over the years.
