1917 Buffalo Nickel with some problems, any comments?

BUFFNIXXBUFFNIXX Posts: 2,718 ✭✭✭✭✭

Here is a 1917 buffalo nickel, mint state, that has a lot of problems
Any comments as to how the stated
grade relates to this coin? It would seem to me that the coin changed in
the holder after it was graded. Could this be mishandling of the coin
after it was graded and before it was slabbed or perhaps someone
sneezing on the coin?
I am stunned to say the least

I'm not certain if you are comparing the in-slab shot to the TV, but the TV is taken raw and before encapsulation and the coin is ugly as butt at that time. So, did it get uglier?

Like it or not, that’s what photography brings out. It does not mean the coin in hand looks as bad.

    Look as bad?

That coin certainly doesn't look MS-64 good.

I would give it an MS61 and hold that as generous.

The only comment that comes to mind is yuck. Perhaps in hand I would have a different opinion.

Certainly the pictures do not communicate a MS64.... Do you have the coin in hand?? Cheers, RickO
