Awesome I’ll be there
Got some great news. Best friends girlfriend got her inheritance last week and part of that includes a lock box in Austin TX…she said it was “20 pounds” and was full of old coins and gold from the 1700/1800s. They have asked me to take a look before they go sell it all. Never had an opportunity like this before.
When will you get to view these coins? Let us know what you find.....pics would be great.
What coins would you buy
1) if you spent $2500 or less -1841 $5.00 EF-45 PCGS
2) “” $5000 or less - 1858-s $5.00 EF-40 PCGS
3) “”$8k or less 1878-CC $5.00 VF-20 PCGS
4) $10k or less- 1865 $2 1/2 F-15 (lowest graded one, next highest is EF-40) PCGS is $5500 for F-15. If it ever surfaces, it will cost 10K at least. Try to find one of these!

Can’t wait. They are in a bank lock box in Austin Tx. I called last night to see if we can drive the 3 plus hours to take a look. Pending call back.

I’ve called two dealers and they essentially laughed and said you must be messing with me.

Sounds like a dream come true for any of us, hopefully its quality material but keep us posted for sure.

Just got off the phone about this. They are tentative the second week of December. Both she and her brother have to finger print the lock box. I told them I’ll work around their schedule / take off work so hoping this pans out.

Understand the logic and I’m having fun. Last weekend at the Houston show my son and I had a great time just talking with people and getting to browse / shop. Everyone was very friendly and beyond knowledgeable.

Loved the show. We had a great time.
Does anyone have a list of the dealers? I might have found two coins I want. I left without purchasing but I’m still thinking about them.
What were they?
Both were proofs, but the one i liked the most was a 1916 PR66 Nickel. Was amazing.
The other was an 186X proof Indian cent.
The gentleman selling it was the first one straight ahead, his name started with a C. See below where he was sitting.
He also had a 1907 Gaudens high relief MS62 but it was a little high in my opinion.
Ed from the Houston show was kind enough to talk with me this morning. The seller I was trying to identify is Larry Cundari.

My hope was that a F-15 might go for 10K,. I've never seen it. Lower grades on really rare material usually go for moon money, especially if choice!
There was a PCGS-35 in Great Collections in 2014 at about 7K. That coin apparently has been upgraded. No way its anywhere near 7K now.
Before suddenly playing in the 10K per coin pool, I’d advise buy what you understand. If you don’t learn about what you are targeting, you’re asking for eventual disappointment.

1) if you spent $2500 or less-MS63 Barber Half
2) “” $5000 or less-Bust Dollar XF45
3) “”$8k or less-The best 1795 Dollar I could find for that price
4) $10k or less-The best 1793 Chain cent I could find.

Hi Johny010,
I'm not surprised the dealers reacted that way
What did surprise me was this sale in August for an 1865 2 1/2! The coin is AU NGC and not at all choice, but the price seemed reasonable at 16K. I was not aware of this sale:
