It's probably a 65 with really bad die fatigue. I couldn't see it grading higher than that. It does look like it might have decent luster in places where the die fatigue is not as bad.

Looks like a 53 to me. Not a fan of those black spots thou.

After getting blown out of the water with your 35 ddr grading test I’m very afraid what this one will be, but thinking it over I’ll say ( close eyes, throw dart ) ms66. This way I wouldn’t be so upset when I’m way off.

I wouldn't pay 58 price for it, but with the die condition in a grader's mind, it may have gotten a 64 grade.

No way this coin coin goes sixty five with all the black gunk on the reverse. And look at the area around the buff's rear end
Looks like he just took a .....
well I guess you get the idea; would it be possible for these black spots to develop after the coin was slabbed?

I didn't think Philly left a die in the press so long that it looked like the reverse of the OP coin.

    Terrible!

    It's probably a 62.

    This is FS-1802.

Darn...Late to the game, but would have been right this time. I looked at the OP coin and thought MS65..... Then reading the subsequent posts, started to doubt it.... Then the reveal...
    :) Cheers, RickO

The OP coin looks horrible for a 65. The @FlyingAl coin looks great and is graded lower?

On the contrary - there most certainly is a way, unless you photoshopped the coin into its PCGS MS65 holder.

After 20 years of marriage, my much better half and I have devised a grading scale.

She will often ask if I find another woman attractive.

The scale is Typically 10 foot, 20 foot etc... ( I never say a 5 footer)

That way there are no fights

    "Oh.... she's a 20 footer..."

This coin is the equiv of a 20 footer.

Up close... we got some issues.

I can see that as a 65. Sure there are some spots on the reverse but overall the coin looks nice with what appears to be good luster and few marks.

I have to start grading by what I THINK the graders will agree to.

NOT what I believe is the rightful grade.

If anyone wants to see this buff on ebay it is auction (buy-it-now) number 363304852302
just copy and paste this number into the ebay search line, do a search on the number, and you will be taken right
to it where you can see that the buy it now price is $3004 smackers(!!!) and does have a 30 day return privilege.
And there are TWO coins available, meaning if you bought it and did not specify that you wanted the OTHER coin
instead of this spot ridden specimen, this is the one you would get!!. I am going to ask the seller if he would send me the
coin not pictured if I requested it. Will report back here and let you know.

Still, over 3K is a lot of bread for what I consider a minor, although neat doubled die. Do you think a coin like this
merits such a high price? But it probably does since the law of supply and demand determines the price of most
    coins.

60 in current state. Don’t know if was plain ugly to begin with or if that’s biological attack. Pass. Is that a mark across the nose. If for error collector then filling hole usually more important than if it’s in pristine condition.

My first thought was MS63, considered MS64, but would not pay MS64 price for it though.

You have to ask yourself this basic question. What did the graders and the finalizer see when they looked at this coin?
I do not believe they saw these black spots or gunk on the coin when they graded it. To be gem ms65 you can not have
these types of disturbenses on the coin. No way! The black spots developed after the coin was slabbed.

Here is another buff graded MS65 and has the same problems as the original one here.
if you were looking for an ms65 for your buff set or perhaps your type set would u want this one?
lotta distractions around the nose and lips area
has a really nice reverse though
Then again is you look closely at the Indian it looks like he was eating some chocolate and forgot

Here is another MS64 graded by our host. Really what an ms64 should be. Very minor distractions.
