Buffalo Bills, And The Pressure To Win It All.

Just a few observations on this. 1)They have been told/touted they are the team to beat and that they were the team to beat last year. Having this continually to be said to the team must be an extra weight to carry. 2)The team no doubt has a conscious/subconscious fear of coming up short in the SB, providing they get that far, thereby becoming the 5th BB team to come up empty. Certainly the team must be aware of the past SB failures. And as the season draws to a close and the playoffs/SB arrive, this pressure will mount and via the media even more so. Both of these points are a heavy load to carry psychologically. Yes, football is physical, but the psyche plays a substantial part as well.

It is definitely a lot of pressure, they're going to have to block all that out and focus on playing their guts out every game, but this is football and you can only control so much of what happens.
For what it's worth, I think the Chiefs are their biggest threat besides themselves. I think it's going to come down to getting past the Chiefs in the playoffs.
Of course, whoever wins the AFC Championship is going to have to deal with my Cowboys in the Super Bowl, we hung 49 points on the Bears Sunday like it was nothing, and we're getting stronger by the second. Join us now, become a Cowboys fan, join us before it's too late, consider yourselves warned!
there will be pressure and it will grow as the season ages. I remember what it was like for the 2007 Patriots team. at the end of the regular season it was as though each game was a playoff game. I think all of that emotion got to them in the end. I like this Bills team and my Patriots cant win it all this season (and they wont) I am pulling for Buffalo. I cant imagine what a SB win would mean for the fans up in Buffalo.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
The Buffalo Bills certainly have a very, very good team but I find it really hard to feel sorry that they can't make the Super Bowl or that they feel any pressure to do it. Heck, they had four shots and couldn't get it done and those teams were pretty good as well. The image from that era that I can't get out of my mind is Thurman Thomas on the sideline just after the opening kickoff trying to find his helmet. WOW!!!
It’s hard to win Super Bowls. Just one team out of 32 every year. My thoughts are if Buffalo can win one with this team and take the pressure off it might open the flood gates for a few more. But Kansas City was supposed to be a ten year dynasty. It just hard to win in this league.

the more i watch Allen, the more i like him. but then again, i'm all about playing to win as opposed to playing not to lose. there's a huge difference, and Allen exudes the former. when it's time to make a play, he looks like he has an "f it, let's do this" mentality. going for extra yards. not shying away from contact. hurdling defenders. i love it. he plays like he has had enough and is going to do whatever it takes to bring a championship to Buffalo. i really dig his style.
sure, he could get hurt. but each of us could be involved in a traffic accident on any given day and that doesn't stop us from hopping in our cars and going places. apply necessary precautions and carpe diem.

I didn't remember that, but I just looked it up and read through some of the older stories and interviews. This plagued him for a long time.

They said it after San Francisco in the 1980's and most recently the pundits linked up "Dynasty" with the SeaHawks and Wilson after they won. It is so hard to get to the Super Bowl let alone string together multiple wins, that's what made the Steelers special and the accomplishments of the Patriots so special.
To continue to win in the NFL is quite difficult and with free agency playing such a big part in building a team there's really only about a three year window for it to happen. After that teams suffer, just look at the moves that were made today. Buffalo is in that third year now and players being what they are might start to get restless, craving that big, windfall contract when the chance is there. Also, every assistant coach wants to be Head Coach.
I wish teams would stay together. Imagine what this Bills team could do if it stayed intact for another 3-4 years??

How about a Bills, Vikings Super Bowl?

that'd be nice
Anyone in the SB as long as it's not KC or TB. The "Dynasty" might be nice but only for a small fanbase. New blood, especially unexpected new blood, is better for the NFL as a whole.
This is so true. It is why there have been so few dynasties in the SB era, especially in the Free agent era.
there have been a number of teams win 2 in a row: GB, MIA, PITTS x2, SF, DAL, DEN, NE
There have only been 2 to win 3 out of 4 seasons: DAL and NE. can you imagine how difficult that is!!! especially in the Free Agent era. it is just surreal that any teams, especially with revolving rosters, could ever do it.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Game would probably end in a tie.
Elation for one city, anguish for another.
Guessing the Jets were TOO much pressure today?

every team but one in the history of the NFL has lost at least one game. Buffalo will be back
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
It will be interesting to see what happens this week.
I'm hoping the Vikings are competitive and don't get obliterated.
I have a feeling the Bills will come out firing this weekend.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Minnesota might be missing two of their better defensive players in Tomlinson and Dantzler. This could really hurt a defense that already gives up A LOT of yards.
The Vikings will have to hope they can get a big game out of Dalvin Cook, or it could be a blow out.
The Minnesota offensive line is still very weak at center and right guard when they are in pass blocking situations. If they can keep the score close, there's a possibility of coming out with a win, but I'm not putting any money on that!
Surprised that the Bills lost to the Jets, maybe they aren't as good as I thought 🤔.
GO VIKINGS!
it is very easy to become a prisoner of the moment when it comes to the NFL. the short-term, micro view: the sky is falling on the Bills. no, they should not have lost that game against the Jets. but when you move hastily backward and take a grand scheme/macro look, they are still one of the best -- if not still the best -- team in the league. last i checked, everyone loses and everyone has subpar games.
a litmus test comes in the form of Minnesota next weekend. for the first time this season i watched 60 minutes of the Vikings yesterday and this is my takeaway: all the talent in the world, but they play down to the level of their competition. they took the opening kickoff and blew down the field on the Commodore 64's and housed one. my immediate thought was, "Washington cannot hang with these guys." fast forward to the 4th quarter with 11 minutes remaining. the Vikings still had 7 points. they basically fooled around for 3 entire quarters and found themselves down 10 points. then it's if they collectively said, "well pop tarts, if we don't turn it on we're going to lose to an embarrassingly inferior team." then they did just that -- turned it on and won. their 6th straight one-score victory.
newsflash: that pop tarts is not sustainable. they do that against Buffalo and it'll be hello loss #2. which is the outcome i am predicting. the Bills will be just fine.
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
When your team is in the midst of a SB or bust season, the week-to-week takes on a different dynamic. The wins eventually don't bring as much satisfaction, yet the losses bring evermore of a sting. At the same time the losses can be comforting, as you know your guys have been humbled a bit. My fellow Pats fans went through this with me for decades. Now, we are relegated to the other side. Now we find solace in moral victories and feel good when our rivals loose. The little things. But for the Bills fans, anything but a SB win will feel like a wasted season.

I agree with you. The Vikings looked good week 1 against the Packers, but it now seems the Packers are just not that good.
The Eagles crushed the Vikings. This was not a competitive game.
The Vikings, with a combination of some good plays and a lot of good bounces, have managed to beat everyone else.
The Bills proved they are human last week, the worst thing that could happen for Vikings fans. Buffalo is going to be ready to play this week at home.
Go Vikings!
This, 100%. As it turns out, I am not a bitter Patriots fan after all. I am shockingly alright with the mediocracy so far. I used to get SO wound up about losing a game or even a half. I truly did not enjoy watching the team after awhile. there was all this stress leading up, and not joy when they won, but relief that they didnt lose. We have those 6 rings in the back pocket, and it just makes it fun to watch the young players develop.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
they should have beaten the brakes off the Vikings, but now I am much less certain with the Allen injury looming.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
If it comes to it, head to head, Keenum (as a Vike) beat Cousins (with WFT) in the Minneapolis Miracle season. Keenum has always been a gunslinger and thus prone to throw interceptions, but the Bills have the personnel and if he stays out of Int trouble, he has Diggs and home field, he should be able to put in the win if he gets the snaps a practice this week and is ready to roll. HST, Bills are keeping very quiet about Allen's status, could be good or not, but it makes prep for the Vikes harder since the longer they don't know which qb is playing, the less certainty on how to prepare. But Allen could be done for the year. If so, Keenum has a second chance................
The Bills have never won it all despite being favored in the Super Bowl against the Giants years ago. It would nice to see them win, except against the Eagles.
Nice post galaxy, but I also like perkdog’s micro view, “bills are frauds”. Gotta admit he gets his point across in a lot less words.🤡
If my team isnt going to win it all this year (and they will not) I would really like to see the Bills win. I think they have one of the greatest fan bases in the country and they have never won a SB. I think it would be fantastic to see them enjoy the big win!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I got the Pats then Brady then the Bills. With the Bills losing and Allen getting hurt I'm surprised our resident Bills fan hasn't chimed in yet on either.
