All "brothel tokens" are fantasy tokens manufactured for tourists.
They frequently have late 1800's "Old West" themes and town names and show prices from that period.
Here's the same one:
Jackson California Kitty's Kat House Brothel Token
Brass, 37 mm, 11.23 gm
Obverse: KITTY'S KAT HOUSE / JACKSON, CALIF. / HOME FOR TIGERS
Reverse: ALL NIGHT / $3 / CHECK
And another one:
Tombstone Arizona Gem Saloon Brothel Token
Brass, 39 mm, 12.52 gm
Obverse: GEM SALOON / TOMBSTONE, ARIZ. TERR. / A PRIZE FOR THE BIGGEST
Reverse: GOOD FOR ALL NIGHT
The Mysterious Egyptian Magic Coin
Coins in Movies
Coins on Television
are you saying that there are no such thing as legit brothel tokens, in any shape or form? exonumia isn't really my thing. i have bought/sold a lot of various types of tokens but i know i am not that familiar with the seemingly incalculable amount of different ones out there.
There are a few of them but most are hat checks, key tags, and the like. There are lots of fantasy pieces.
I have seen many of these at coin shows years ago.... I do not know if any were authentic, though some table dealers said they were. Not sure brothels were giving it away.... Cheers, RickO
The few legitimate varieties are obviously legitimate. Mostly they are very subtle in their subject matter. Some don't mention a subject at all, only a proprietor's name and location, and you have to "just know". I can think of several examples from Europe, mainly France. I can't think of an American example offhand but there probably is one.
The big flat brass examples in this thread are unquestionably modern fantasies. You can find dozens on eBay.
Yep, all fantasy pieces. I'm in Nevada where brothels are legal still today. Never had such tokens.![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

IMS most of these were apparently made by LA Stamp and Coin and date to the '60's and '70's.
I sold a large collection of these and similar items as fantasies. They are very popular and many probably used to trade hands as being legitimate. There were about 50 in the set.
Look for other threads on this subject as it has been addressed - sometimes correctly -- time and time again.
Some salient points:
-- Yes, there legitimate U.S. brothel tokens, quite a few of them in fact.
-- No, they are not explicit in nature at all - many that are considered brothel tokens are simply trade tokens from known brothels, often with the proprietors name on them.
-- Yes, there are older Nevada brothel tokens, several from well known madames including Jean Field, Jessie Ward, Ollie Day and Maude Rogers and known prostitution establishments like The Lucky Strike, The Classy Inn, the M & L, etc. No token from Cross-Eyed Ruby has turned up as yet. These are listed in the two Nevada trade token catalogs.
-- Several French shell card style 21mm brass tokens from U.S. brothels are known including ones from NYC, Chicago, San Francisco and a relatively common one from Denver.
--The first of the modern type fantasies seen was a silver Denver - Madam Ruth Jacobs 38mm piece back in the 1960's.
-- The original distributor of the modern all incuse prurient brass flea market garbage was Blackhawk Productions of Connecticut. Several other companies joined in with even more explicit tokens in various sizes a very low prices.
-- I have no idea who LA Stanp And Coin is -- L.A. Rubber Stamp Co. (LARS) was a signature used on mostly non-brothel fantasies struck in the 1970's but those were not struck by L.A. Rubber Stamp.
-- One of the largest U.S. (& world) collections of brothel tokens was shopped around several years ago at a strong price in search of a buyer who was never found. It ended up being auctioned in pieces for quite a bit less than the asking price (IIRC) - I still have an inventory list of that group around here somewhere.
A very interesting side light to collecting.
Pete
I posted a token and menu from a Puhrump, Nevada brothel a few years ago and was asked by two to remove it; and TOLD by the mods to delete it. I guess someone with deep pockets started collecting them and coming soon an announcement that these “tokens” / chunks of metal will be accepted for encapsulation.

Back in the 70's, there was a great steakhouse that used to be a brothel in Fedders Hot Springs N. Calif. I think it was called Wandas. She was a large well endowed woman who received diners from her boudoir just off the front door. The food was excellent and she was a character. Peace Roy
