Should I Have this 1919 Mercury Dime DDO Slabbed and Authenticated?

I didn't want to high jack @StrikeOutXXX's thread so I decided to start a new one to ask my question. I know that it is in terrible condition (my guess is AG Details), and I am already in it for $167.50. So what do my fellow forumites think? Should I have this 1919 Mercury Dime DDO slabbed and authenticated?

I would keep it raw.... An example of a DDO that was not found for many years (see the thread here). Will likely details grade, so save some cash. Cheers, RickO
I'm thinking even a genuine holder won't mess with the population much. Why not ? It's still about time. Took all but a hundred years to discover and get validated for the first one.
I could ask the same on so many of my submissions.
While it IS a rare variety, I still think there's a market for it even if un-certified. I once cherried an acid-dated 1916 DDO nickel and sold it raw for $650. Save your money.
id leave it alone, thats just me. best wishes with what ever you do with it
It is what it is. There's no doubt about the DDO, even with all the damage.
Keep it raw. Someone will want it if you ever try to sell it.

Certify it as the DDO.
Once certified it will likely be both more liquid and more valuable. Additionally, it will be easier to insure if you have it certified and, if anything happens to you, your heirs won't drop the coin off in a bulk silver deal.

Having it certified by PCGS will make it much easier to sell.
If I was in the market for a coin like that, I would want it certified. I would not buy it raw.
I dont necessarily believe you're buried in the price, but just getting it validated by ANACS would assure most people looking to buy this variety.
If you send it to PCGS, you can add another hundred along with 3 months of waiting.

The price difference between ANACS and PCGS is negligible, but it'll be much easier to sell one it's certified as a DDO. The grading cost will pay for itself.

Since it's a rare variety...I would pay the fee for the attribution.

Thank you everyone for your input. As of now it is close to a tie, with a slight edge to keep it raw. Please continue to vote if you haven't already and are inclined to do so.
I'm in no hurry and I haven't totally made up my mind, but I'm leaning toward sending it to ANACS. Although I may wait for a special and/or for turnaround times to improve.
I don't have any plans to sell the coin (I waited too long to find it), but as with everything it will be sold one day. My biggest concern goes along with @TomB's post. I don't want my wife or kids selling it as junk silver.
Keep it raw and save some $
Why not send it in as 1 of your coins on your yearly pcgs collector club voucher? Free grading, just pay the $18 variety attribution fee.
By it's being posted here it has received a certain level of legitimacy. So there's that. But to be on the safe side get it in a TPG holder. Looks more impressive within an "eye candy" holder.
Given that you own it already, and that either you or your heirs will want to sell it someday, it would be MUCH easier to sell were it authenticated.
The money you already have put into the coin is a sunk cost; at this point, you should be considering how to maximize the value of the coin; $45 (more or less) is an easy call to get it authenticated, IMO.
Send it in. A PCGS AG03 sold for $1395 on eBay a few months ago. I think yours, even if AG Details, should be worth at least 40 to 50 percent of that. I would consider $167.50 a bargain!
