I had no intention of filling this slot this weekend, but I was perusing on GC and came across this one. Looking at the pop reports these seem to be pretty rare and undervalued imo. Only 4 higher at CAC, decided it would look good in my type set.

$1900 in 58, $3800 in 60. Would appreciate the former.
The only other recent sales have been two 60’S at stacks. One went for 5k and the cac one went for 7800. Both of them appear to be as baggy as this coin, their color looks more original than mine, in my very limited knowledge of grading, I would guess what set mine back was friction on the high points?
Nice pick ups. I have AU55CAC 1850 and 1860 Half Eagles, also low CAC pops (38 total all grades and 13 total all grades at CAC respectively). Neither has appreciated during the recent run up in CAC gold. This series does not get a lot of respect.
Early Philadelphia gold unfortunately for the most part gets no love. Prices haven’t shown significant appreciation across the board despite the rarity of some dates.
Edit: I’ll retract my statement about appreciation after checking prices.

Agreed, the 48 QE has fewer survivors than the 48 CAL QE. and look at the price difference.
Additionally, of the four higher with a CAC, those are all at MS60 and MS61, none graded higher that merits a CAC. There’s a good possibility those four may be “beat up” to an extent, hence their low Mint State grades. So it’s quite possible the eye appeal of your 58 is the nicest of the bunch!!!!
Congratulations!

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
The Fairmont coin was a 60 (pretty banged up).
I think you did well. In my less than expert opinion, you can still find some reasonably priced no motto eagles because their collector base is thinner than that for half eagles.

I couldn't find a link to the result on GC, nothing on Coinfacts yet either. Ebay makes it easy to find results.
$2900/$3300 BP is what I am seeing.

It’s definitely on gc, but CoinFacts doesn’t reflect GC sales (which I think need to be included in CoinFacts)

Great addition to your collection! Beautiful 58. And CAC agrees!

Plus you never know whether there were resubmissions either PCGS or cac. It doesn't look like there are many NGC comparables graded.
Excellent original-looking coin, congrats on the purchase!
