I am seeing double, but is it the wrong kind?

Here is this 1909S again. Is the date or "In God We Trust" machine doubled or is it something else?

That appears to be machine doubling.

Thank you for confirming. I felt it was probably machine doubling, but I wasn't sure enough not to ask. It was sharper looking than some, and I wasn't sure of letter width change.

That is one amazing coin. I have her sister in 63+CAC. Obviously mine has things a little tougher aging.

A beautiful coin. I personally do feel that most MD does not distract from the coin's beauty and on some enhances it. I truly like your coin. Should I be able to afford a gold coin it would be a $10 Indian.

Machine doubling, but a very nice gold coin. Cheers, RickO
Nice coin, in gold we trust. Paper, not so much.
Greater care is usually given to gold coin production. Machine parts are inspected and adjusted. MDD like the OP's is kinda rare.

The Indian is one of my favorites 😍
