LOL this reminds me of the time my friends unearthed a coffee can full of garden variety (no pun intended) Saints and Liberty Head $20’s in their back yard that their father had buried there decades earlier and then forgot about. They were digging for a small shed foundation.
If it were me, personally, I would have kept it a secret, because when the old man found out, in spite of the fact that he had long since left the state and moved on with his own life, he wanted them back.
The post by @renomedphys should be a good reminder that people continue to bury valuables for safekeeping. Then, either memory or fate (illness, death) steps in and the item(s) remain buried. Cheers, RickO
