I need some help on this Buffalo Nickel..Overdate?

VetterVetter Posts: 881 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is the sellers pictures, not mine. Could this be an 18/7 D? All I can see is the lower part of the last number and it looks like the left side is straight with the round on the right like the overdate. It might have the die crack just above the braid. Please let me know if I am seeing things. The 3ed picture is just a zoom of the 1st. Thanks!

    I don't think it's an 8.

Needs a little Nic-a-date, or whatever called today. I agree with 16, still a shot for an overdate.

I see a 6 (possibly a 5), and no sign of an overdate. I would not pay more than a very few dollars for it; if it were the 1918/7-D, the seller would pay to get it graded.

Does not look like the 8/7, but it is so worn, hard to say. I would just pass on that one. Cheers, RickO

Not a 1916 DDO since there is no doubling in the small feather.

Agreed. Also, the designers initial "F" doesn't look mis shapen.

Some overdates (very few) do not have the die crack, as it happened quite early. I don't recall ever seeing a 18/7 without it.

In addition, the D mintmark has to look EXACTLY like the one provided here, as there was only one die used.

    Hope this helps.

    Here's the die crack:

    I'm seeing a 5 as in 1915...or perhaps a 6.
